Purpose / This unit standard is for people employed in the petrochemical industry.
People credited with this unit standard are, in a petrochemical workplace, able to: describe and carry out punch listing for new equipment in a system; commission a system with new equipment; and optimise new equipmentin a system.

Explanatory notes
1Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with relevant site requirements and the following legislation:
Health and Safety at Work Act 2015;
Resource Management Act 1991.
2This unit standard is intended for, but is not limited to, workplace assessment. While all evidence requirementsmust be met, it is noted that all range statements within this unit standard are indicative and dependent on enterprise and site specific equipment, procedures, and practices.
3For assessment against this unit standard evidence may be given of commissioning equipment that has been modified.
4Definitions
Punch listing means checking new or modified equipment and processes prior to commissioning.
Site requirements mean the site specific documented methods for performing work activities and include health, safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Describe and carry out punch listing for new equipment in a system in a petrochemical workplace.
Evidence requirements
1.1The purpose and principles of punch listing are explained in accordance with site requirements.
1.2The equipment to be punch listed is identified using the plant identification and numbering system.
1.3Drawings are located against which the equipment is to be punch listed.
1.4New equipment to be commissioned is punch listed to identify any defects or omissions.
1.5Any equipment defects or omissions are recorded and reported in accordance with site requirements.
Outcome 2
Commission a system with new equipment in a petrochemical workplace.
Evidence requirements
2.1Documentation required for commissioning a system is located.
Rangevendor manuals, training manuals, procedures, drawings, certification.
2.2Emergency procedures and contingency plans associated with the commissioning are explained.
Rangeemergency shutdown, trip tests, emergency response equipment, personnel responsibilities, audits.
2.3The equipment status is identified as ready for commissioning in accordance with site requirements.
2.4The commissioning of equipment and system meets plant, manufacturer's, and designer’s requirements.
2.5Equipment operation is monitored during commissioning to identify problems.
2.6Any problems are logged and reported to identify required remedial actions in accordance with site requirements.
Outcome 3
Optimise new equipment in a system in a petrochemical workplace.
Evidence requirements
3.1Plant operating parameters are identified to determine the baseline.
3.2Plant optimisation achieves design specifications.
3.3Trial actions are trended and recorded to provide evidence of results in accordance with site requirements.
