High School Summer School Scheduling (completed by Guidance Staff)

  1. Log into eSchool, in the upper right of the screen click on the school year, check the summer school check box and click ok. You should now see a sun besides the school year letting you know you are in the summer environment.
  2. Pull up the student as you normally would, click on the scheduling folder, click entry, click quick add to search for the course you need to add. Find the course and double click on it.
  3. Click keep to save the schedule.

June 15:

  • High Schools - Mail report cards

June 19 at 3:00 p.m.:

  • Odyssey will end for the 2014-15 School Year. Rollover for summer school will be completed June 24. First date for summer Odyssey use is June 30 (First Day of Summer School)

June 25 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.):

  • Teacher Workday at NRHS

June 29:

  • First Day of Summer School
  • Safety Drills for Summer Programs: Fire drill, Weather drill, Code Yellow – 1st and third week (SOL Academy is in session). Bus evacuation – 1st week of SOL Acad.

July 29:

  • Last Day of Summer School. Mail Summer School Report Cards. All online/virtual work (D2L) must be completed by the last day of summer school.

July 30:

  • Summer administrator must send a list of graduates to Technology. (Dave Johnson and Jessie Ricks. Copy Doug Dohey)

Notes:

  1. SOL Testing during the summer programs

Students who will need the SOL test(s) for summer graduation (Summer Term Graduates) will be afforded one or more SOL test, as needed. Students enrolled in Summer School courses and SOL Academy courses will be afforded the SOL tests for enrolled courses, as appropriate.

  1. Summer Program

High School Summer School is designed to provide opportunities for approximately 300 students to complete a new course or repeat a course previously taken. The summer school program is a tuition based program that is contingent on student registration/enrollment. Some students may have to take the course through a virtual medium. Enrollment will dictate the delivery (face to face vs. D2L).

This program will be held from Monday, June 29, 2015 through Wednesday, July 29, 2015 (19 instructional days) at Nansemond River High School. Instructional days will not occur on Fridays. Courses will be scheduled as follows:

Repeat Courses

Morning7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Late Morning/Afternoon 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.

New Courses

All Day 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

(break – 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon - lunch not provided)

English 12 and Government (New and Repeat) are virtual/blended courses and will meet twice a week following the time schedules listed above.

Graduation Ceremony will be held in the Nansemond River High School auditorium on July 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

TUITION

Tuition must be paid in full at the time of registration. Personal checks for tuition will be accepted until June 5, 2015. After this date, tuition must be paid in cash or by money order.

REGISTRATION

All students must receive prior approval, in writing from their principal, in order to enroll in the Suffolk Public Schools High School Summer Program. There will be no Friday registration after June 12, 2015. A signed Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Policy (AUP) will be required – parent and student signatures are required.

Suffolk Residents

Registration will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at King’s Fork High, Lakeland, and Nansemond High Schools from June 1, 2015 through June 19, 2015. Proof of residency & permission letters are required for non-SPS students.

Non-Suffolk Residents

Registration will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Nansemond River High School on June 22, 2015 (cash/money orders only).

The Testing Identifier Number is required with permission letters/registration forms.

Suffolk residents, not attending Suffolk Public Schools, may register at any time during the registration period at one of the high schools. Suffolk residents not enrolled in Suffolk Public Schools must have written permission from the student’s base school certifying the course(s) the student is eligible to take.

Procedures for Transferring Funds

All funds from the base schools will be forwarded to the host summer school by July 1, 2015. Refunds should be requested using the school’s purchase order and should be completed by July 9, The host school will forward all summer school funds to the School Administrative Office by July 16.
