Please provide the following information about the course proposal for review by the Council on International Programs. Feedback by the Council on this preliminary proposal will assist in program development and completion of the course plan. Submit this formand attachments with the required signatures (Department Chair and College Dean) to Amy Wang, Director of the International Office.

  1. Provide a brief summary of the course. The summary should include purpose, learning objectives and describe why/how study site was selected.
  1. What is your own linguistic, cultural, and /or academic experience with the travel study destination? If you have limited experience with the destination, explain how you plan to maximize student safety (for instance, will you be using a local tour company, tour guide or study abroad provider?)
  1. If this is renewing an existing course, describe what you have learned from leading the program in the past, include changes you will make to become a better facilitator/faculty leader in the future.
  1. For whom is the course designed (undergraduate/graduate students, students with a certain program area or major, etc.) Will there be any priority order when accepting students to the course? What criteria will be used (e.g. prerequisites, class standing, GPA)?

I additionally verify that:

  • The proposal and class(es) intended meet academic standards and are consistent with mission, goals and resources of the department.
  • The faculty member will be engaged in the proposed program for the duration stated in the proposal.
  • Leading a Cal State L.A. faculty-led course requires that faculty member possess administrative, diplomatic and leadership skills to work collaboratively with the International Office, overseas institutions and partners, and students. The faculty member has demonstrated that they have these skills appropriate for the program they are proposing.
  • The faculty member has maintained positive student evaluations and/or other indicators of teaching effectiveness.
