Washington State Queen Contestant Rules & Judging Criteria

The Washington State Angus Queen contest will be held at the Washington State Field Day, May 19, 2018, beginning at 7 a.m. at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds in Ellensburg, WA. Visit for directions.

Washington Angus Eligibility:

  1. Each girl must be 14 years of age by August 1, 2018 and not over 21 years of age by the same date.
  2. Each girl must be a junior member of the American Angus Association.
  3. Each girl may be asked to show an animal or animals in a showmanship contest.
  4. Each girl must complete the application form and the information sheet and submit by the due date listed.
  5. Each girl must write an essay about herself. The essay must be between one and three typewritten pages and must be double-spaced. These will not be returned to the contestants.

Judging Criteria:

Each girl will be interviewed by a panel of judges and will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Personality – 30%
  2. Application & Essay – 25%
  3. Written test about the history and knowledge of the Angus breed, which will be given at the interview– 35%
  4. Showmanship if needed – 10%

The winner of the Washington State Queen Contest will be required to write two newsworthy articles about herself and experiences during her reign as Washington Queen to be used for publication.

The girl that is chosen as the Washington State Angus Queen is encouraged to attend as many Angus shows, Field Days, and Angus functions as possible to help promote Washington State Angus.

The Queen is also expected to run for Regional Queen the following year in Reno, NV. The Washington Angus Auxiliary will give the Queen some money for expenses during her reign.

Please be sure to fill out and return the following:

1. Completed Application including signature of an adult

2.One to three-page essay (double spaced, 12 point font) about yourself and your connection to the livestock and Angus industry.

Application may be either electronically submitted as a PDF via e-mail or mailed via the US Post Office. Applications must be received no later than March30, 2018. No application will be accepted after this date.Electronic submission preferred
