Job Title: Local Campaigns Officer

Reporting to: Campaigns Manager

Department: Policy and Campaigns

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To support the achievement of our campaigning objectives through leading localised campaigns on priority campaigns issues

To build local campaigning bases in target areas to support campaigns on priority issues, including existing campaigner network members, local disabled residents and organisations, people using local services and community groups

To build relationships and contacts with key local influencers and opinion formers in order to support the delivery of organisational objectives.

To act as an organisational representative in target geographical areas

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·  To develop local campaign plans in support of identified national campaigns in target geographical areas, and to identify local examples/best practice to support national influencing activity.

·  To develop local networks in key target areas for support of campaigning objectives, and to be the main point of contact for LCD campaigners in the region.

·  To liaise with decision-makers and influencers in key target areas, including MPs, councillors, other political stakeholders and journalists

·  To build partnerships with relevant local organisations or campaign partners, for example local disability groups, in target areas

·  To recruit and support people with experience of key campaigning issues to communicate their experiences by acting as media case studies, writing blogs and articles or other means

·  To work with the Volunteering department to develop volunteer support for campaigns in target areas and for people using service and staff across the area, including providing resources and group training

·  To develop innovative ways to build campaigning capacity, such as the use of digital tools.

·  To work with the Fundraising department to support integrated local, public-facing campaigns

·  To be a point of contact for campaigning advice or support for people who use our services, staff and volunteers

·  To work, plan activity and share information with the respective Director of Operations, local Development Manager and Community Fundraising team to ensure an integrated approach to local activity.

·  To support activity to promote awareness of Leonard Cheshire Disability and the charity’s services in target areas.

·  To work collaboratively with statutory, voluntary and other relevant agencies in the region where this would increase the impact of campaigns in the region.

·  To promote Leonard Cheshire Disability and its campaigns and to act as a representative of the organisation and a media spokesperson in the region where necessary.

·  To ensure disabled people are at the heart of campaigning activity, and to work to ensure they play a full part in and benefit from the devolution agenda.

·  To report regularly against delivery of campaigning targets

·  To undertake other reasonable duties which may be required.

·  To have experience of planning and leading local or national campaigns, leading to changes in policy and practice

·  To have experience of identifying, building and developing local campaigning capacity, using data and intelligence from different sources.

·  To have experience of working in or with voluntary and community groups, volunteers, individuals wanting to campaign and decision-makers

·  To have experience of project management of campaigns or other initiatives

·  To have experience of communicating effectively and reporting on activities as part of a dispersed team

·  To be willing to regularly travel and work across a large region.

·  To be committed to the values and ethos of Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Technical competencies & skills

·  To have an understanding of local/regional political structures, stakeholder analysis and how to prioritise different stakeholders.

·  To have excellent communication skills, including media relations and social media

·  To be able to motivate others and harness potential.

·  To be able to prioritise activities according to a clear national framework and work to tight deadlines.

·  To be able to work on own initiative and to be flexible in relation to reactive campaigning opportunities

·  To have good IT skills
