Anglo-Saxons and Celts
While the Franks settled in France after the fall of Rome, Britain was invaded by the Angles, Saxons and Jutes.
These Anglo-Saxons drove the native Celtic people into Wales, Cornwall, Scotland and Ireland.
The Anglo-Saxons can be described as warriors who farmed.
They were skilled craftsman and were known for their fine metalwork, sculptures and jewelry.
In the 9th Century the Anglo-Saxons suffered greatly from weak kings and Viking raids
The Irish Celts soon became the “educated elite” of Europe. Irish monks trained missionaries, spread Christianity and knowledge all over Europe.
The Irish monks also took great care to preserve the cultural legacy of ancient Ireland, Greece and Rome by copying ancient stories, legends and knowledge by hand onto parchment books.
