Clinical PresentationAssignment
The clinical presentation is an assignment that requires the student to analyze a problem in the clinical setting and practice addressing the concern to the provider utilizing the SBAR format. Communication is essential in the clinical setting to ensure your patient receives appropriate care. Students will review research pertaining to their problem and explain how their recommendation is aligned with current practice and research.
Objectives:

- Identify and analyze research and evidence related to the area of concern in practice based on the patient situation. (Knowledge, Skill)

- Follow communication practices that minimize risks associated with handoffs among providers and across transitions in care. (Skills)
- Differentiate clinical opinion from research and evidence summaries. (Knowledge)

- Communicate observations or concerns related to hazards and errors to patients, families and the health care team. (Skill)
Guidelines: Students are required to identify a research article based on their assigned patient in the clinical setting. The research article will be summarized by the student during their presentation. Students will be required to write a SBAR and apply information found in their research article to the recommendation section (see Rubric below). Students will present observations during post-conference based on times assigned by clinical instructor.
