POSITION: EMPLOYMENT/COMMUNITY SPECIALIST

JOB LOCATION: Kaposia Hennepin, 8100 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, MN

JOB DUTIES: Train, support and supervise groups of 3-6 individuals with developmental disabilities in employment, community integration, leisure/recreation and volunteer activities. The employee will be trained in and assist with finding and supporting individuals using the Discovery Process for employment and volunteer opportunities.

SPECIFICS:

  • Daily independent decision making and problem solving.
  • Provide direct support, training and supervision in day to day activities, including community and non-communitybased activities
  • Take the initiative in researching, planning, scheduling and implementing community based leisure, recreation and volunteer activities that meet the interests of the individuals with disabilities
  • Provide personal care, which will include providing physical and medical related support. Provide support for emotional, behavioral and mental health issues. Provide direct support for individuals with sensory and community challenges.
  • Ensure quality customer service. Develop and maintain effective communication teams.
  • Write training programs and goals/objectives, collect data, write progress reports and participate in planning meetings.

The duties and job assignments may vary depending upon the day and available activities. The job requires some assisting with meals, transferring individuals in and out of vans, some assistance in the restroom. Employees also provide physical support when guiding or walking with others. Employee duties include driving transportation routes and working at a computer/keyboard for completing any case management duties or reports.

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A four-year degree in a field related to human services, and one year work experience with consumers with developmental disabilities is preferred, OR A two-year degree in a field related to service provision, and two years of work experience with consumers with developmental disabilities is preferred, OR A diploma in community-based developmental disability services from an accredited postsecondary institution and two years of work experience with consumers with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated good decision making, problem solving and judgment skills.
  • Must be able to work without supervision. Must be a team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able lift and assist with physically transferring people.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Maintain first aid/CPR certification.
  • Vehicle, valid driver's license and clean driving record required.

HOURS: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM. You must be flexible to attend meetings, training or other duties as required beyond regular work hours. Please note, this position will not start until April 2,2018.

COMPENSATION: Non-Exempt position, $14.00-$16.10 per hour depending upon education and experience.
