Position: Project Officer / Part time 21 hours p/w
Location: Shrewsbury / Reporting to: UK Programmes Manager
Salary: Circa £15,000 pro rata / Date to be appointed: August 2016

SIGNAL (Sensory Impairment Globally Nationally and Locally) has a vision for a deaf friendly world. Working together with others we want to build deaf friendly communities through developing knowledge, equal access to services and opportunities in life.
Signal has been operating in one form or another since the 1860s providing assistance to deaf and hard of hearing people within Shropshire. It has been active for just under ten years assisting sensory impaired (deaf and deafblind) children and young people in sub-Saharan Africa to become full and active members of their families and communities.
Introduction to role
Signalis seeking a project officerwith drive and enthusiasm to join the existing project team working on our Big Lottery funded Befriending and Deaf awareness project. The project aims to tackle the isolation faced by people with hearing loss. More information can be found on our website.


The project is now in its second year and the project officerwill work in conjunction with the befriending co-ordinator to ensure that it continues to run effectively.
Areas of Responsibility:
  • Engage with local networks and other community initiatives to promote all aspects of the project
  • Arrange and run the project stakeholder group meetings
  • Report progress to Signal senior management
  • Co-ordinate deaf awareness training sessions
  • Work in conjunction with communications team to develop social media output
  • Arrange community deaf awareness sessions in line with project objectives
  • Co-ordinate Deaf Sign Language project committee group

Essential
  • Good networking skills

Desirable
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Basic project management skills
  • Knowledge of British Sign Language
