IfsuccessfulinyourapplicationtoNHSNational Services Scotlandyouwillbeemployedin the Public Health & Intelligence Unit onaFixedTermone year contract.

Duringyourapprenticeshipyouareexpectedtoattendregularreviewstodiscussyourprogressanddevelopmentneeds,andareexpectedtosticktotheagreedtrainingplan.Thisincludesattendinginternalandexternaltrainingandtakingresponsibility,withsupport,tocollecttheevidencerequiredthatprovesyourcompetenceinthejobrole.

Will Ibe workingtoaJob Description?

Yes.YouwillworktotheModern Apprentice in Creative & Digital Mediajobdescriptionwiththeexpectationthatyouwillbesupportedandtrainedtocarryoutallofthedutiesandresponsibilitiesoutlined.

Youwill also receiveanoutlineof theapprenticeshipprogrammewhichhighlightsthekey areas whichyouareexpectedtocompletebeforeyour apprenticeshipwillend.

You will have face to face weekly meetings with your training provider which will be Glasgow Kelvin College. These will take place at Young Scot HQ, Haymarket, Edinburgh. There you will have the opportunity of meeting other Creative & Digital Media modern apprentices attending Young Scot’s Digital Academy. Youwill also berequiredto attendSoft Skills and Employability Training delivered by Young Scot at Young Scot HQ, Haymarket, Edinburghone day per month startinginlateAugust 2015.

Where will Ibe working?

There are two posts and apprentices will rotate round different teams who work in Creative & Digital Mediadepending on function and tasks assigned to the apprentice for assessment.

There are teams based at Meridian Court in Glasgow, G26QE and at Gyle Square in Edinburgh, EH12 9EB.

TheGlasgow officeis ashortwalkfromCentral Stationand there aregoodbuslinksaroundthe city centre.The Edinburgh office is a short walk from both Edinburgh Park and South Gyle train stations. There are bus and tram stops close by.

What is the Public Health & Intelligence Unit?

Public Health and Intelligence (PHI) is the new business unit of NHS National Services Scotland and includes the former Information Services Division and Health Protection Scotland. PHI delivers official health statistics and provides an expert public health protection service to the people of Scotland. Through the provision of intelligence, PHI provides support and advice to the Scottish Government Health Department, NHS Boards and a wide range of organizations working in health and social care.

Monday to Friday 9:00a.m.to 5:00p.m. However, there is a flexible working system in operation.

Who else works within the team?

There are 2 Web Graphics teams - based in Edinburgh and Glasgow. In total 14staffmemberssupportmanagers, consultants and staff by providingawiderangeofcreative and digital mediatasks. You will be expected to rotate around different areas to maximize your learning in the areas identified in your Individual Learning Plan in order to achieve a Modern Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media.

2. JOB PURPOSE
To provide Creative and Digital Media support across a range of business areas in Public Health and Intelligence (PHI). To Complete the Modern Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media.
3. DIMENSIONS
The post-holder will be a member of a team providing creative and/or digital services.
ISD publish 60-70 statistical publications per year, the majority of which are published in accordance with protocol for National Statistics issued by UK Statistics Authority.
The ISD website is the primary publication medium for all ISD publications, although some publications currently take place on external sites (i.e. ScotPHO, Substance Misuse, SICSAG).
The HPS website is the primary publication medium for all HPS publications.
Stakeholders include the Scottish Government Health Department (SGHD), NHS Boards (and other NHS Organisations), the media, the public, commercial organisations and research bodies.

5. ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT
Public Health and Intelligence (PHI) is a strategic business unit (SBU) within National Services Scotland (NSS), part of NHS Scotland. PHI provides health information, health intelligence, statistical services and advice, health protection services that support the NHS in progressing quality improvement in health and care facilitates robust planning and decision making.
PHI works in partnership with a wide range of organisations – NHSScotland, NHS Boards, hospitals, general practitioners, Community Health Partnerships, local authorities, universities, voluntary organisations, and many other care and service providers, including UK and International bodies.
Our Mission: To transform information into evidence for action to protect and improve health and well-being in Scotland.
There are six main services within PHI which have been set up to meet these challenges. Associate Directors are accountable for the delivery of services within Strategy & Business Development, National Information & Intelligence, Data Management, Knowledge Management and Health Protection. Associate Directors will work closely with the Heads of Service, Service Managers and with clinical leads within the Clinical Leads Service. Responsibilities of Services and Teams:
Planning, Performance and Business Development
  • Strategic planning for the National Information & Intelligence Framework requirements of PHI and for Business Development opportunities for new bespoke specialist services.
  • Oversight, development and ongoing delivery of work that generates additional revenue through the provision of bespoke specialist services and
  • Provision of management resource and support for product development and oversight of additional revenue generating work delivered by the National Information & Intelligence or Data Management Teams.
National Information & Intelligence
  • Delivery of National Information & Intelligence Framework requirements of PHI.
  • Delivery of additional Scottish Government sponsored project work and topic specific additional revenue generating work.
  • Delivery of routine information services, including PQs, Information Requests, publications.
Knowledge Management
  • Lead the development of the PHI Knowledge Management Strategy and the tools which support its delivery, including library functions, web and publishing
  • Support delivery of good professional practice in health protection and dissemination of impartial expert advice on health protection
  • Oversight, development and delivery of systems to communicate about risks to health and their management, including Hazard Coordination
  • Workforce Education & Development
Data Management
  • Delivery of Data Management Services across PHI and provision of support to NHS Scotland for submission of national data.

Provide Creative and Digital support in a selection of the following areas within PHI whilst working toward a Modern Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media:
  • E-learning development and design
  • Web app development
  • Social media
  • Film production and editing
  • Web development and implementation
  • Graphic design and communications
  • Communicating using digital channels
  • Publications and statutory regulations
  • Accessibility standards
  • Any other appropriate duties as required.

7. ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK
Work is supervised and reviewed by the line manager on an on-going basis. Advice and guidance is available as required. The post holder will:
  • Meet regularly with line manager to discuss objectives
  • Work with college to achieve Modern Apprenticeship (MA)
  • Follow training programme
  • Plan and prioritise work on a day to day basis
  • Liaise with colleagues on projects undertaken
  • Refer to others when appropriate

  • Standard Keyboard skills
  • Occasional manual handling of file boxes
Physical effort
  • Daily requirement for sitting/inputting at workstation for substantial periods of time 2-3hrs with appropriate VDU breaks.
  • A combination of sitting, standing and walking with little requirement for physical effort.
Mental effort
  • Frequent and unpredictable interruptions which entail switching between various activities.
  • Requirement to meet deadlines.
