What’s Cookin’ In Your Kitchen?

Scripture Text – Colossians 4:6

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Introduction: The words that we say do have an affect on those who hear. The Apostle Paul here desires that he would know how to answer every man in the right manner, especially when he preached unto people about Jesus Christ. We should feel likewise about our speech when we witness. Every time that God opens a door to talk to others, let us make sure of our speech because it could be the last time to ever get to talk with them. Our desire should be to make a lasting impact in our conversation to the lost, walking in wisdom redeeming the time.

I. The Guarding Of Our Speech (..Let your speech be alway with grace)

A.) Speech That Is Acceptable

Psalms 19:14 - Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

B.) Speech That Is Accountable

Matthew 12:36 - But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Romans 14:12 - So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

C.) Speech That Is Acknowledgeable

Titus 2:8 - Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

2 Corinthians 11:6 - But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.

1 Corinthians 2:4 - And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

II. The Gathering Of Our Speech (…seasoned with salt)

Seasoned means: 1) to prepare, arrange, with respect to food 2) to season, make savory.

Salt means: ) salt with which food is seasoned and sacrifices are sprinkled 2) those kinds of saline matter used to fertilise arable land 3) salt is a symbol of lasting concord, because it protects food from putrefaction and preserves it unchanged.

A.) The Scriptures As Our Position

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

B.) The Spirit As Our Power

Acts 1:8 - But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

C.) The Savor As Our Product

2 Corinthians 2:14 - Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

III. The Guiding Of Our Speech (…that ye may know how)

A.) Wisdom In Determining

James 1:5 - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

B.) Waiting For Developing

James 1:4 - But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

C.) Working To Delivering

Ephesians 4:28 - Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

IV. The Glorying Of Our Speech (…ye ought to answer every man)

A.) Answering Fully

2 Timothy 3:10 - But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

B.) Answering Honestly

1 Thessalonians 4:12 - That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

C.) Answering Unashamedly

Phillippians 1:20 - According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
