Individual Placement Description

Placement / FY1 Urology
The department / 3 consultants, 2 middle grades, 1 ST, 2 FY1. In-patient at RAEI, day case at Leigh, OPD TLC and Leigh, diagnostic at Leigh. Core surgery, stone surgery, endourology, functional urology, paediatric urology,
The type of work to expect and learning opportunities / All FY1 doctors in hospital posts will generally be ward based during the ‘normal’ working day and expected to deliver the daily medical care of all the patients on their ward irrespective of specialty. Whilst in urology the FY1 will be involved with generic clerking of patients being admitted and the ongoing care of the patients in the unit.
The overall educational objectives of the FY1 year are to provide the trainee with the knowledge, skills and attributes to be able to

Main duties of the placement / Day to day care of patients admitted under consultants – clerking, arranging investigations, facilitating ward round and discharges. Undertake on-call duties. Attend out-patient clinics and theatre sessions.
Primarily duty is to look after inpatients, organising investigations, acting on it and carrying out ward based procedures.
They are expected to attend the structured FY1 teaching sessions on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday lunchtimes and any teaching sessions provided by the department. The doctor will be responsible for such other specific clinical duties as allocated by consultants including performing other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
