Derek Pooley:

  • Initiative Committee Update
  • Would like to do more community service. If you have ideas please let anyone in the committee know or put your ideas on the paper in the back.
  • This year Community Garden 11 people participated and had a great harvest
  • Teaming up with Caren Summers to host a few karaoke and trivia to build campus wide comradery.
  • Hope House Project: Would like campus community to donate hotel toiletries, non perishable foods, etc for the Holiday Season.
  • Would like to invite everyone via email to different establishments for social time after hours.

Scott Nonemaker:

  • Resource Committee Update
  • Purpose of the committee is to gather your questions, thoughts and ideas, research how to better serve the campus community and find ways to improve campus.

  • 2 floors, 5 classrooms, 2 administrative staff members, Trade room, computer lab, bistro, 5th floor has faculty offices and MBA office
  • Next week is the building dedication: It will be called the Robert Brvenik Business Center
  • Currently waiting for liquor license to be able to host events
  • Transportation has been great with very little difficulty

President Laura Casamento:

  • Personal Goals
  • Achieve a passing (1.50) DOE ratio.
  • Achieve a freshman to sophomore retention rate of 73 percent, which represents a three year weighted average of first year retention.
  • Raise $1 million in the unrestricted annual fund.
  • Begin establishing a culture of transparency that helps Utica College faculty, staff, students, and alumni understand the College’s strengths, challenges, and strategic decisions. This goal will be measured by a thorough self-assessment, as well as a 360 degree evaluation by the campus community or an appropriate subset of the campus community.
  • Put into place processes for measuring, monitoring, and improving employee morale and engagement. This goal will be measured by a thorough self-assessment, as well as a 360 degree evaluation by the campus community or an appropriate subset of the campus community.
  • Strengthen the culture of assessment, ensuring that effective assessment is a College-wide endeavor, one that drives planning, budgeting, and decision-making. This goal will be measured by a summary report produced by the Joint Cabinet.
  • Lay the foundation for developing an academic master plan and the College’s next strategic plan. This goal will be measured by a summary report produced by the Joint Cabinet.
  • Objectives for the next 3 years:
  • The establishment of ten-year target goals (broken out annually) for both retention and four and six year graduation rates. These targets will be recommended by the newly formed Task Force on Retention and Completion and submitted by 3/31/2017. Rick Fenner and Jeff Gates are leading this team.
  • The development of an academic master plan. This will drive decisions for workforce, facilities and technology investments and priorities.
  • 2020 expires the Strategic plan.The development of the next strategic plan is beginning.
  • The establishment of a cost per completion metric used to evaluate our efficiencies and institutional effectiveness, as well as a method to annually evaluate the metric.
  • Launch the next comprehensive capital campaign.

Additional points:

  • Ramada/Clark transportation has been working well
  • Currently working on making changes to the Financial Aid Metrics
  • Hoping to receive more A4 and A5 students
  • Offices should focus on their spending and become creative in monitoring spending habits.
  • Has created a budget committee to research what is the best action plan to save money

  • Collected 7 boxes of nonperishable goods for the Hope House. Will be doing it again soon for Easter.
  • Had a Successful Happy Hour at the 99 in New Hartford
  • Upcoming
  • Dropping goodie bags each month to offices to make staff feel appreciated.
  • Want to host a door decorating contest for St Patrick’s Day. The initiative committee will judge and the winner will get a certificate of bragging rights.
  • After hours: Looking to get ideas from the staff on how to get together and do some team building activities. Please be mindful of saving money when the ideas come to the committee.

George Nehme: Vice President of Advancement

  • Background Information
  • 9/1/2016 -Officially started at the college full time.
  • 3/2005 - President Laura hired him as a consultant to work on the “Achieve” campaign. The goal was 25 Million and it ended with 30 Million. This gave us Romano Hall and the ECJS building.

  • Approved monetary goal this year from the Board of trustees is 1 million. 16% increase already from the Alumni this year.

  • Its equal to the 15 Million in the endowment.
  • The endowment is directed to specific areas.
  • It gives students the extra help that they need financially to stay at UC.
  • The new campaign will be coming soon and they will be allocating the funds to be determined by leadership (Facilities, financial aid, profession development, etc).
  • Short Term Goals
  • 3 million to build a Construction Management Building, currently at 1.5 Million.
  • Plans to update the Clark Gym.

  • We all collectively have a hand in creating a wonderful student experience and it relates to alumni giving so thank you to the staff and the role each of you playing making Utica College great.

  • Bethany: Breaking Barriers is coming to an end. The campus theme committee is looking for new ideas, logo designs, and it is open to all to participate.

Student Senate - Andrew, Ellen, Ann

Ann: President, overall about senate

  • Past events: organized the campus clean ups,sponsored beyond the classroom series
  • Currently have become nationally affiliated with the American Student Government Association.
  • Senate fund organization and events, IGC, WRC ,UCPB
  • 40 senators

Ellen VP

  • Recognition committee (encourage students to get involved)
  • Online forms are available through SLCE to become a registered org
  • 100 active organization, must have the minimum of 5 students to be recognized and an Advisor
  • Senate has recognized 10 new organization this year.

Andrew Chief Justice

  • He chairs the meetings and constitution revisions
  • 7 amendments that will be voted on this upcoming year
  • Restructuring the Student Senate and how it is currently running
  • Next year will be a Student Senate and Student House with an overall name of Student Government Association.
  • House: 1 member of each organization will represent their club, attend all meetings and report back to the org,. This is to increase involvement and give the organization responsibilities.

Bethany Van Benschoten- Campus theme

  • The new campus themes is “Leading the Way”
  • Website will updated soon
  • Aaron mallace - Gave the theme and credit for getting it. The paragraph he wrote will be available soon.

  • If you have any connections/events to the theme please let us know, you may be eligible to request for funding. The committee currently has a budget of $3,000.00 for the year. If you want your event connected to “ Leading the Way” fill out the proposal.
  • In the past the Campus Theme Committee has funded student organization conferences, prizes, etc.

Kristen M.- Executive Committee report

Resource Committee - No report

Damien Boehlert - Sodexo Renovations

  • Monday after graduation everything will be moved out of dining commons
  • Pioneer and Strebel lounge will where summer meals will be served
  • Pioneer Cafe is open 1130-2pm.
  • Emais will go out with information as needed
  • Phase 1 Asbestos removal Monday May 8th
  • There is a plan if students come back and the project is not complete
  • Some things to look forward to: Wok 360, brick oven pizza, charbroiled grill, sandwich and salad station,breakfast station, upstairs will have its own soda station, 2 stairways, new seating, flooring, new entrance, digital signage
  • Reminder: Faculty dining plan 50 for $200.
  • FDR and CDR is offline for the summer

Derek Pooley - Initiative Committee

  • Jess Skelton for the garden 20 people are participating. $5 buy in fee. The college is picking up the rest of the bill
  • Happy hour: nicely attended next one after graduation
  • ½ of campus with candy gram the rest will be after graduation
  • Just been charged with organizing campus cleanup. Will send out an email, Sat or Sun but has the go to for during the week.

President Laura Casamento

  • Year is shaping well financially. We will hit our 1.7 DOE as long as the stock market stays consistent
  • Once the DOE and July report is completed we will get an update. The Joint cabinet has decided to not get raises this year.
  • Free tuition
  • Governor's proposal is taking heat but he will not change his mind. Hopefully he does not take it as a challenge to do more to harm to private schools
  • The program has a lot of holes and families think that it is free and until they get the truth we are going to have to hold on.
  • Our deposits are down, we will have to take proactive approach.
  • We will not be in a position to reinstate TIAA. The money is going to be used to give us a cushion or use it as a pool to enhance TAP.
  • May 9th is the town hall meeting
  • Job preservation is what we want to concentrate on, so we might have to cut benefits and other things.
  • In the end we will have a great story to tell, with great support from faculty, staff and students.
  • Laura will continue to share information, because She needs all of us.
  • The campus is getting the July 3rd off and have a 4 day weekend.

  • The current and prospective parents have been contacted about free tuition.
  • We did the right thing of lower tuition, have cost down, and we have been very proactive of what the governor wanted from private institutions.

Caren: Health and Wellness

  • Taking application for CSC 2 sizes, apply online April 29th open house. (Produce) Payment plan available. We need 20 participants or we can’t be a drop off

  • It’s Kris’ last meeting as PSAC President and gave Kristen a gift from PSAC and President Laura.
