Adoption of Agenda / -motion to adopt as read by Michelle, 2nd by Pam

Open House BBQ / Scheduled Wednesday Oct.19/16 beginning at 5:30pm / -reviewed plans, sponsorship and work list
-Nicole secured a sponsorship of $250 from Affinity Credit union
-Susan Flaman will be presenting a cake to thank the volunteers for their efforts with the outdoor improvement project
-the BBQ and Open House is scheduled from 5:30 – 6:15, parent sessions (three 15 minute sessions) will run from 6:15 – 7:00, Awards Night will begin at 7:00
-a message reminding families about the event will be sent out the day before on the school messaging system as well as the REMIND system, also reminding that there is a cost of $3.00/burger this year
-the SLC will organize some activities for the younger children while parents are attending the sessions
-Bonny will find staff volunteers to BBQ and serve and ensure there is propane for the BBQs
-Michelle will order the food
-Pam, Sam, Michelle and Ben will be there early to assist
-the SLC will assist with clean up while the parent sessions are taking place
Awards Night / Scheduled Wednesday Oct.19/16 to follow the Open House / -the school will be sending out email notifications to parents whose children are receiving an award
-Deborah and Pam will present the Art and Spirit Awards sponsored by the SCC
-Janet will be speaking
-Sam will also be speaking and will recognize Affinity and Plainsview Credit Unions for their sponsorship
School Newsletter / Developed monthly by Tara / -both the Plainsview and Affinity Credit Unions will be thanked for their sponsorship in the next newsletter
-Sam requested that she be included in the electronic notification sent monthly that newsletter articles are due
VRS Learning Improvement Plan (LIP) / Presented by Bonny / -VRS goals for 2016/17 year are as follows:
-Sense of Belonging
-focus on improving Math skills
-focus on improving Reading skills
-to meet these goals VRS will be expanding participations in Mathletics, scheduling writer’s workshops with an ELA consultant, and holding Creative Camps for students to work on these goals
-the SCC will support these goals by holding events including another Murder Mystery night, PJ Literacy Party and possibly a Karaoke event. Dates to be announced as plans are finalized
Vibank Rink usage / -Bonny has approached the village about the school using the rink. Village council has requested further details about their planned usage to consider
-Bonny will gather those details and provide them to the Village for consideration
SCC Workplan / Financial Report / -the financial report has been completed and submitted to the school by Michelle
-Michelle will contact Fran and Tara to have it put onto the SCC page of the school website
Principal’s Report / Presented by Bonny / -Bonny provided a list of upcoming school events
-the school will again be selling magazine subscriptions; renewal notices for last year’s subscriptions are already being received. Tara to include in the next newsletter that the school will be selling magazines again to encourage people to buy through the school
-the school LIP goals will be put up on the Wall Walk prior to Awards Night
SLC Report / Presented by Ben / -765 LBS of food was gathered by VRS students for the FCC food drive last week, the winning class was the Grade 5s
-the Menchie’s sale Sept.30/16 was a big hit, the SLC plans to hold another sale in Oct./16
-upcoming SLC events include a “Haunted classroom” and costume day Oct.31/16, formal day Oct.19/16 and VRS gear and hat day for $1 Oct.14/16.
-the SLC is looking at hosting a movie nigh in Dec./16 - TBA
