Position: Contemporary Worship Leader
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Employment: Part-time (non-exempt)
Job Description:
The Contemporary Worship Leader is a part-time position (approx. 20 hours a week) that will directly oversee and provide all spiritual leadership and creative support to leading the Contemporary Worship experience at First United Methodist Church of Land O Lakes. This position requires planning and executing all components of worship including, but not limited to selection and arranging of music, developing and training volunteer worship leaders, recruiting and training volunteers for the Praise band, assisting in the weekly planning process and working collaboratively in a team setting. In addition to leading worship, the Contemporary Music Worship Leader will be responsible for casting vision around bringing creative expression into the worship experience.

o Show proficiency on guitar or piano, preferably both instruments and proven experience as a teacher and instructor
o Have proven experience in performing, training, and directing an eclectic group of musicians in a variety of musical genres and working with a team of people
o Show knowledge of modern worship music, traditional hymns, and secular songs appropriate for a worship setting
o Be able to relate to and lead a multi-generational congregation in worship
o Understand how to see and communicate the “big picture” of the worship experience and organize the details
o Have excellent oral communication skills
o Have a high level of initiative, motivation and enthusiasm
o Be proficient in Mac & PC platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Proclaim, Worship
Planning Center, and Media Shout, music editing software, i.e. Audacity or Sound Forge, Windows Media Player and/or iTunes
o Be proficient with email and use it as a primary source of communication with other staff and volunteers
o Be able to maintain confidences, effectively listen and communicate, and have the ability to resolve conflicts in a productive and God-honoring manner
o Working knowledge of sound amplification systems
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
o Coordinate music and video selections that provide a God-honoring weekly worship experience
o Work collaboratively with pastor to support the message of the week or series
o Recruit, develop, and schedule a volunteer Praise Team
o Provide leadership for all Contemporary worship services
o Provide leadership for and coordinate music for Praise Team rehearsals
o Initiate new music opportunities for volunteer Praise Team
o Facilitate the weekly worship planning meetings
o Attend weekly staff meetings
o Attend monthly church council meetings
o Collaborate with the Audio/Visual staff and volunteers to ensure there is adequate time for preparation, sound checking, and script editing to ensure a quality worship experience.
o Collaborate with all other staff
o Mentor and provide direction to the youth band
