The Sara Lee Trust

The Sara Lee Trust provides essential support and care to local people who are affected by cancer and other life threatening conditions as well as to their families and carers. The Trust is also the dedicated provider of these services for the patients of St Michael’s Hospice and the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital. Apart from a small, but important, grant from Hastings & Rother NHS (Clinical Commissioning Group), the Trust is totally reliant on donations and fundraising activity to fund its operations.

ROLE SUMMARY

Many charitiesrely on supporters to act as volunteer ambassadors, to represent them in the community.Ambassadors play a key role in helping the charity to increase the awareness and understanding of its work with the general public.

Sara Lee Trust (SLT) Ambassadors ‘tell The Sara Lee story’ in their local community by delivering talks to local groups and organisations. The talks will ensure more people know about our services, and how to access them. They will also cover how to volunteer and fundraise for the charity.

We need an enthusiastic and motivated individual interested in making a long term commitment to become Volunteer Ambassador Co-ordinator, to arrange and organise an ongoing programme of talks for our Ambassadors to deliver within the community.

Goals

  • To raise awareness of Trust services and how people can support us enabling us to support more people affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses
  • To increase the number of talks given by the Trust within the local community
  • To support Trust Ambassadors through regular communication, organising meetings and sharing good practice

Key duties

  • In conjunction with the Fundraising Manager, research local groups and organisations which welcome outside speakers at meetings, events, AGMs etc
  • Contact relevant groups and organisations and offer a talk from an SLT Ambassador
  • Follow up with any interested groups and secure a date for the talk, the venue and the requirements of the talk (duration, informal/formal, slides needed etc)
  • Liaise with Trust Ambassadors to arrange which volunteer will carry out the talk and any supporting material needed
  • Create an annual talks calendar and keep updated
  • Deal with any post talk correspondence – thank yous and so on
  • Liaise with Ambassadors on a regular basis to motivate and assist in their work
  • Keep Ambassadors informed and up to date on Trust news and developments

Other Responsibilities

  • Undertake and complete all training required for the role;
  • Develop good relationships across all activities;
  • Adhere to organisational policies and procedures at all times;
  • Ensure all supporters are thanked and feel valued for their contribution;
  • Promote public understanding of the work of the Sara Lee Trust and the importance of raising funds highlighting the difference it makes;
  • Approach communications in a courteous and professional manner.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure the health and safety of fellow volunteers by following general procedures and identifying hazards;
  • Maintain a constant awareness of health, welfare and safety issues affecting self, colleagues and customers/donors reporting any potential risks, accidents, incidents or near misses in line with organisational policies and procedures;
  • Abide by all Trust Health and Safety Policies and Procedures;
  • Be aware of and comply with the Fire Regulations as required.

Further information regarding the role:

Time commitment

  • Onemorning or afternoon per week and you will need to be ideally interested in taking on the role for at least 12 months

Induction and training

  • Information and full induction will be provided

Ongoing support and guidance

  • You will be fully supported by the Fundraising Manager and will be given regular 1:1s throughout the year
  • Opportunities to meet and network with staff and fellow volunteers
  • Regular updates about the Trust’s work

Where will the role be based?

Whilst our preference is for the Volunteer Ambassador Coordinator to be based at our main office: 25 Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex TN38 0LB, we can be flexible and will consider home working.
