APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR PLACEMENT AT DPS

STEP 1:The learner’s current school needs to submit the learner’s documents (ISS Referral Form / 450 Support Forms, or SIAS documents / SNA 1/2/3) to their district office who will determine whether full-time placement at a remedial school is recommended.

STEP 2:The current school’s district ISS Unit will assign the learner with an LSEN (Learners with Special Educational Needs) number.

STEP 3:Learner NOT in JHB North district: Learner’s current district will forward learner’s documents to our district (JHB North) requesting placement at DPS. JHB North may or may not approve this request. If placement at DPS is approved by district, only then will the learner’s placement on the waiting list be finalised.

Learner IS IN JHB District: once the district has approved placement at DPS, only then will the learner’s placement on the waiting list be finalised.

While STEPS 1 – 3 are followed, DPS will accept and process applications so that DPS may assist the District with recommending or not recommending full-time placement at a remedial school. However, the learner’s name WILL NOT be placed on our waiting list until the application and placement at DPS has been approved by our district office (JHB North) and the valid LSEN Number is provided. Only once this process has been completed, will you receive a Waiting List Letter to confirm that the learner has been placed on our waiting list.

NB: PLEASE CONTACT THE RELEVANT DISTRICT DIRECTLY, NOT DPS, TO CONFIRM RECOMMENDED SCHOOL PLACEMENT AND THE LEARNER’S LSEN NUMBER.
