USTA South Carolina QuickStart Equipment Grant Available!

To promote and grow QuickStart Tennis in South Carolina, USTA SC is offering an equipment grant for Tournament Directors to promote the new format for 6-10 year old players. A $75 commitment is required from the applicant for the equipment package listed below. This fee will be reimbursed for applicants who are awarded a Quickstart Line and Conversion Grant from USTA Southern. All grant applicants must also pledge to operate four sanctioned tournaments that use the QuickStart format for the 8’s and 10’s divisions by December 2011, of which at least one must be a Rising Stars tournament in 2010 and at least one other must be a Rising Stars tournament in 2011.

Note: Applicants who have already painted permanent lines on their courts are also eligible for the USTA SC Quickstart Equipment Grant.

Equipment Grant Details:

Package Offer ($550 retail value):

·  Four 23” rackets

·  Four 25” rackets

·  Four dozen foam balls or felt (red) balls for 36’ courts (8-and-under)

·  Four dozen orange balls for 60’ courts (10-and-under)

·  Two 18’ nets for 36’ courts

·  Laminated how-to sheet for TD’s

Note: QST Line & Conversion Grants from USTA Southern and USTA Facility Assistance grants are also available to provide up to 75% of QST lines cost. (approx. commitment by facility for two courts = $150).

Requirements of Applicant:

·  Commit to operating four sanctioned tournaments (at least 1 Rising Stars (RS) event in 2010 and 1 RS in 2011, and at least two events, at any level, in 2011) that include 8s and 10s divisions on QST courts. Applicant’s Rising Stars sanction forms must be submitted to USTA SC office by the September 30th grant deadline. Deadline for bids for higher level junior tournaments in 2011 is July 30, 2010.

·  Applicant provides court space and supports teams in USTA Jr. Team Tennis (unless provided a waiver by USTA SC).

·  $75 commitment from applicant. Commitment drops to $0 if combined with a QST Line Grant.*

·  Application deadline: September 30, 2010

2.)  Submit Sanction Forms for 4 Tournaments (1 Rising Stars in 2010, 1 Rising Stars in 2011, and 2 other tournaments with QST Divisions in 2011)

4.)  Upon successful completion of lines, reimbursement of the $75 equipment fee will be provided from USTA SC.

USTA Southern QST Line & Conversion Grant Information:

Requirements:

·  Facility must apply for a 2010 USTA Public Facility Category I Assistance Program Grant ($4,000 maximum grant which requires a 50% local match) by filing out a Facility Assistance Form at http://ct.usta.com/pfa/.

·  Facility must be willing to line a minimum of two courts or convert one 78 foot court to permanent 36 foot courts.

·  Facility must sign a letter pledging to continue the QuickStart format for a minimum of 3 years to be eligible for future USTA Southern grant funding.

Additional Requirements:

·  Private clubs are eligible to apply if they use the QuickStart format.

·  Park and Recreation Departments that apply must be a designated Tennis In The Parks Agency.

·  Community Tennis Associations that apply must be registered in the national database.

·  Schools that apply are encouraged to have QuickStart tennis lines for elementary and Junior High campuses and No-Cut programs in High School.

·  Colleges and Universities that apply must participate in the Tennis On Campus Program.

·  NJTL chapters that apply must be an NJTL chapter in good standing.

Amount:

USTA Southern will match dollar for dollar the investment a local community makes toward the total cost of lining courts to make up the required 50% local match. Available USTA Southern funds will be capped at $1,000 per facility. Currently, the cost to line QuickStart courts is approximately $250-$450 per court. Converting an existing 78 foot court to four permanent 36 foot courts is approximately $8,000 - $10,000 per court.

1.  Complete a USTA Facility Assistance Form, http://ct.usta.com/pfa/.

2.  Work with an assigned USTA or Section representative to gather required information for a technical review and to develop a concept plan so you can obtain an estimate.

Reimbursement:

After the project has been completed, pictures of the finished project and a copy of the final contractor’s invoice has been received, USTA Southern will reimburse the local facility for the amount of the USTA Southern grant (25% of the total cost capped at $1000 for lines and/or conversions). USTA National will do the same for their portion (50% up to $4000.)
