Marking Criteria - Students will be assessed on their ability to:
*Demonstrate evidence of relevant academic reading and research including the set readings in the reading list.
*Demonstrates the ability to evaluate theory
*The work is well, presented, well – structured and appropriately referenced adopting the Harvard style of referencing.
*Demonstrates the ability to critically evaluate research and ideas.
*Demonstrates understanding of knowledge of recent debates.
*Evidences a coherent body of work
*Demonstrates the ability to apply criminological theory, knowledge, concepts and ideas.
Style:
Write an essay which is well structured, coherent, and grammatically correct andappropriately referenced using the Harvard conventions set out in ‘Cite them Right’ including in-text citation
For a good mark you need to:
*Ensure that all your sources cited in your essay are listed in your bibliography.
*Pay attention to the correct use of Harvard referencing, in particular the inclusion of page numbers when using quotes.
*Ensure that your essay flows and that your arguments are coherent.
*Avoid unsubstantiated assertions and ensure you provide source citations to support your claims.
*If you must use lengthy quotes, indent them and cite a source page number. It is however better to avoid lengthy quotations if possible.
*Ensure rigorous proof reading
*Make use of appropriate academic sources such as academic books, see the reading list in the Module Handbook and academic journal articles, avoid Wikipedia and inappropriate internet websites. Appropriate internet sources include Google Books, Google Scholar, Delicious.com and Quest
*Avoid being overly descriptive and avoid simply summarising rather than analysing other people's work.
*Develop a critical and analytical style to your writing.
The essay must be submitted to the Blackboard module site through Turnitin at any time up to 16:00 hrs on Friday 4th May 2018.
