VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR

FULL-SCALE, MASS CASUALTY EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE

RICKENBACKER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Rickenbacker International Airport is conducting their triennial Full-Scale, Mass Casualty Preparedness Exercise (emergency simulation) as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. The event date has been set for Tuesday, June 14, 2016 and will run from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. This event is held rain or shine. Volunteers will be asked to report by 8:30 a.m. in order to provide adequate time to prepare for the exercise. To register for the exercise, please visit http://bit.do/lck2016

The purpose of this exercise is to test and evaluate emergency response plans of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, first response emergency services, hospitals, community non-profits, and other local emergency preparedness organizations in the event of a major disaster (aircraft, natural or otherwise).

Volunteers play a significant role in ensuring the success of an event by creating a “realistic” exercise environment. Although the details of the scenario cannot be disclosed, efforts are now underway to recruit 125 volunteer actors to portray accident victims. These individuals will be moulaged (applied make-up) to simulate injured aircraft passengers. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to participate. A firm commitment is requested when registering for this exercise; however, if you find that you will not be able to participate, we ask that you contact Chris Williams, Volunteer Coordinator () to withdraw.

Volunteers are to report to the Rickenbacker International Airport and follow the signs for volunteer parking. This will be adjacent to the passenger terminal off Alum Creek Drive. There will be a free designated parking area for volunteers, who will then board a bus for transport to the passenger terminal for volunteer registration. Between 8:30 pm – 10:00 a.m., participants will receive their assignments, moulage applications, volunteer briefings and safety instructions.

Exercise play begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. Through the day, “victims” will be triaged and some will be transported to participating hospitals. At the conclusion of the exercise, all volunteers will be returned to the Rickenbacker parking area where they will check-out with the Volunteer Coordinator and be released.

Thank you for your interest in participating in this very important community event. We look forward to seeing you.
