Areas of Service for volunteers

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Bring Joy and happiness to our patients as they recover, art projects are done with the patients at bedside. An excellent role for those who love art, human interaction and those who want to expand heir ability to interact with patients with differing levels of functioning and needs. Artists are encouraged to spend as much or as little time as needed with each patient.

General Clerical (Monday-Friday daytime hours only)

Assist various departments by answering telephones, helping with filing, copying and collating and data entry, as well as a wide variety of projects unique to each department as they occur. Ideal volunteers for these roles, should be friendly, self motivated and enjoy working with others as well as alone and enjoy detail oriented tasks.

GUEST SERVICES AMBASSADOR\Information desk

Assist the patients and visitors to the hospital by helping meet their needs in a variety of ways. Deliver needed or requested items to patient rooms, such as newspapers, flower deliveries, gifts and even meals! Assist patients at discharge by helping them gather their personal belongings and assisting them while their transportation needs are meet. Greet visitors and provide directions as well as answer questions in our guest services area. Other opportunities are available through out the hospital at a variety of information desk points that are less physical and are in great need. Come be a hero to our patients and our teams and bring a smile to their day as well as your own!

HAPPY TAILS PET THERAPY

Bring the happiness only your dog can bring to patients in the hospital by joining the pet therapy team. Ideal dogs will be easy going and well mannered and enjoy meeting new people. Teammust go through temper testing and approval. Pet’s vaccination record and health status must be provided.

NURSING UNIT ASSISTANT

Assist nursing units in a variety of roles. Provide water to patients (watching for fluid restrictions), answer call lights, assist patients under supervision of nurses, put away supplies, visit patients and provide comfort and companionship. Assist with discharge of patients. Excellent role for those wanting to pursue a career in nursing.

NUTRITIONAL SERVICES

Come assist our fabulous dietary team and help keep the food coming! A lot goes on behind the scenes in a hospital and the cafeteria is no exception. The café team needs volunteers to assist with silverware packing, pie cutting, and table clean ups to keep up with our fast paced cafeteria. Come join a great team who serves over 1400 employees and 200,000patients a year.

GIFT SHOP

Friendly and courteousgreetings and farewell to customers. Re-stock merchandise, assist customer needs, and assist with retail tasks.

Reception Assistant

Communicate questions or information regarding scheduling to the staff and the patients. Provide a warm welcome to patients arriving for testing. Interact with patients and visitors in a variety of locations providing a warm welcome and friendly direction.

Trolley

Drive the hospital cart on grounds to assist visitors and patients. Provide directions to various departments. The prefect candidate must love to be outside and be a people person. Over 25 years of age only.

Surgical Liason (Monday-Friday 7-6 hours available)

As a member of the surgery team you will provide the patient’s loved one’s with non-clinical information about their progress through the surgical process. In this role you have the opportunity to make an immediate difference in relieving stress and anxiety by being a resource to the family and loved ones of a patient undergoing surgery.

Transportation

Do love to stay busy? Are you passionate about customer service and teamwork? If you said yes then transport might be the volunteer role for you!. Our transportation team welcomes dedicated volunteers to their team who assist with patient flow through out the entire hospital.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENT EXPERIENCE AMBASSADOR

Great each patient in the emergency room and assist the patient and visitors with anything that can make their stay more comfortable. Liaison between patients and nurses any needs and concerns of the patients. Take time to visit with the patients if they desire and offer comfort to relatives. Assist patients to destinations such as x-ray or discharge. This is an excellent role for those wanting exposure to a clinical environment.

(Proof of Hepatitis B series vaccinations needed and candidate is preferred to be 18 years of age or older, exceptions may be made for strong candidates).

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT WAITING ROOM

Greet patients and visitors to our Emergency room. Provide a friendly and welcoming smile.Offer comfort to patients and visitors by offering warm blankets. Work closely with triage nurse of patient’s needs or worsening condition. Provide comfort and act as an information liaison for patient and family. Entertain small children and provide diversion if needed. Assist visitors back to patient’s room when appropriate.
