about ILLiad

ILLiad is the electronic system you use to request an item through the library (both Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery.) The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

Where do I begin?

To utilize the ILLiad system, you must first sign up for a new user account. You will be able to keep this same account for the duration of your affiliation with Midwestern. If you are affiliated with St.JamesHospital, you will still be able to order items Midwestern owns through this account.

  1. To begin, from MWU Library’s home page, select Order Materials/ILLiad from the right hand menu.
  2. You will be brought to a new page. Click on “First Time Users”.
  3. Read and agree to First Time User Registration Agreement. This contains user name information, copyright agreements and links to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  4. Fill out New User Registration Form with your information. When all information is accurate, select “Submit Information.” You will be granted access to ILLiad.

Create/Add Account

When you first log in, you will be prompted to add a NO CHARGE account. MWU Library charges MWU affiliates $3.00 for each item MWU does not own. MWU Library offers an option for MWU affiliates and hospital employees to avoid this billing charge and only request MWU owned material by adding a “NO CHARGE” account option. Your default account is listed as $3.00 for non MWU items. To avoid unwanted billing charges, add the “NO CHARGE” account to your ILLiad profile NOW. (Faculty/Staff: this is where you should also include your departmental/grant accounts.) To add this account:

  1. Under the Tools menu, select Edit Accounts.
  1. Create the NO CHARGE account by typing in the following:
  2. For Account Number, type: 0 (zero)
  3. For Account Type, type: No Charge
  4. For Description, type: Order only if no charge.
  1. Click “Add Account” button.

Faculty/Staff: use the instructions above to add a departmental/grant account, just place account number in 2a and “Department” or “Grant” in 2b.
