Dear CSS Family,
Hello Spring!! This is a beautiful time of the year because we can see the true beauty of our neighborhoods and communities. From the trees and flowers blooming to the laughter of children playing on the playgrounds, everything and everyone just seems a little brighter and happier during the spring season. It is also a time when spring cleaning occurs in the home and windows are opened to allow the spring air to run throughout the house. But as the spring air comes in, so too does the special and warm spirit of the home filter into the community. This is what will happen during the spring season within the CSS community.
There are so many exciting things planned for our community this month. First, the school classrooms will be filled with intelligent scholars displaying their knowledge on the ITBS assessment. Second, our students will also shine at this year’s Annual Spelling Bee. Our middle school students will be able to discover and learn about exciting careers during our Annual Career Day. And finally, our upper grades will continue working on their Spring production. Please keep us in prayer because we will be very busy this month!!
Peace and Blessing,
Mrs. Fametta Jackson/ Principal

Standardized Testing

CSS will begin its testing period beginning Wednesday, April 11th to Wednesday, April 18th for grades 2 through 8. It is very important children have a well-balanced breakfast before coming to school or take advantage of the daily school breakfast. Please make sure your son or daughter gets enough rest and is present on time for testing. No child will be permitted to enter the testing room once testing has begun.

It is important that our students put their best effort into this test. For our younger students, it allows for our staff to further develop academic support and enrichment services for the next school year. For our middle schoolers, their performance on the test will allow them to choose which high school they would like to attend in the future.

The CSS’ Annual Bull Roast

Please come and join us at our Annual Bull Roast on Saturday, April 21st from 7 pm-11pm. A limited amount of tickets are only $35 per person and are currently on sale. Get them before they are sold out! Please see Mrs. Long for tickets.

Helping our Students Become Academically Stronger

PowerSchool is a wonderful and useful tool to assist you with keeping track of your child’s progress in grades 3 - 8. If used weekly, you will see the current grades your child is earning and the assignments that are in need of immediate attention. Please consider using PowerSchool on a weekly basis to get a progress report of your child’s performance. If you need any assistance with getting access to PowerSchool, please call the school office.

Safety

Please continue to be mindful of appropriate parking lot speed, both on the front and back parking lots. Our daily goal is to ensure that all students arrive and depart from school in a safe manner!

Preparation For The Summer at CSS

The Y.A.T.T.A.S. Summer program and the R.E.F. Summer programs will be offered to students and families this summer. Y.A.T.T.A.S is a performing arts program which addresses the kinesthetic and artistic needs of our students while the R.E.F. summer program provides academic support for our students to make them even stronger going into the next school year. The R.E.F. program will be held during the hours of 8am- 12pm. Please consider one of these camps for your child’s enrichment this summer.

Summer Work

In order to make our students even stronger, we must address their academic needs throughout the entire year. Because of this, CSS will require its students to complete both math and reading work during the summer months. This work will count as a major grade once the students return for the 2018-2019 schoolyear. More information about this summer work will be sent home next month.
