KEY RELATIONSHIPS / Supporters, volunteers, the community, local businesses, business networks, schools, colleges, universities, community associations, the Community Investment Crew and Senior Management Team
GRADE / £25,000 per annum
HOURS / The company standard full-time hours are 37.5 in a seven-day period. This role requires flexibility in working these hours during the day Monday to Sunday, as well as evening and weekend events with compensatory time off in lieu at standard hours.
JOB PURPOSE
This role is central to the income generation strategy for John Taylor Hospice. The post holder will proactively build relationships with our communities that will increase awareness and funds for John Taylor Hospice, supporting people to make a difference in the way that is most appropriate to them. The post holder is accountable for creating sustainable mutual relationships that are based on a common interest. The post holder has the following core responsibilities:
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivering positive community benefit
  • To help create meaning through conversation and social media with people who have a personal experience of John Taylor Hospice as well as the general public that results in mutually beneficial financial and social return.
  • Accountable for ensuring, respect, confidentially and consent are consistently applied in working with others to develop stories that support the aims of the company and comply with our ethical media management protocols to protect patients and promote trust and confidence in the reputation of the CIC.

INCOME GENERATIONRESPONSIBILITIES
  • To develop, manage, monitor and report on income and expenditure budgets for the geographic area of responsibility, and in line with the Crew income generation plan.
  • To act as an Ambassador; to develop the positive reputation of the Hospice with key stakeholders (volunteer fundraisers, community groups and companies, families of people we care for) and create excitement and meaning, making it great to invest in John Taylor Hospice and increase funds and awareness
  • To drive delivery of key income streams through the local community groups and associations, corporate partners, volunteer led income generation and sporting activities.
  • To provide excellent supporter care ensuring that everybody who supports John Taylor Hospice is valued and understand how they have helped make Every Moment Matter.
  • To proactively plan and lead the development of volunteer led income generation and recruit, retain and support the development of a network of people who organise events and initiatives that generate funds to invest in John Taylor Hospice
  • Deliver income generation events in line with the income generation strategy
  • Support volunteers in the geographic area of responsibility ensuring effective induction, training, development and utilisation of volunteers to raise awareness and funds for John Taylor Hospice.
  • Help supporters to generate income in a way that suits them, providing expertise and support to ensure each supporter reaches their personal goals and the long term value of each relationship is maximised.

COMPANY SYSTEMS
  • Respond to and deal effectively with enquiries in person, on the telephone and through social media from the public, volunteers and supporters.
  • To maintain accurate records on Donorflex and comply with the organisation’s data quality standards.
  • To ensure all activity complies with Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice, charity and tax law and John Taylor Hospice policies.
  • To carry out other duties commensurate with the post.
  • To be responsible for maintaining a culture of the highest standards of donor care to encourage long term engagement and participation of all our supporter groups
  • To work effectively with public and professional partners
  • Able to operate computer and telecommunications equipment provided by the company, & with the line managers agreement to use personal telecommunications equipment or computer equipment for the purposes of work; where an allowance is payable
  • When required for the delivery of the company’s contracted services and/or in the interests of the company, be able to provide own transport for the purposes of work

Corporate Role:
  • Act as an ambassador for all aspects of the company’s operation
  • To act as an advocate for the crew across the company to ensure that the workforce as a whole are as fully informed as possible about upcoming initiatives and can contribute to our portfolio of events, appeals and campaigns Help team stay abreast of new developments in the field
  • Work with other Crew members and across the organisation to raise the profile of the Community Investment Crew with key staff teams within the Hospice
  • Be able to respect, understand and value difference to ensure that John Taylor Hospice is accessible to all our communities
  • To proactively support the membership component of the company
  • To be open to review and scrutiny of your own work and participate in peer review and external inspection of our services including continuous review and remaining responsive to the people who come to us for help; meet individual needs
  • To facilitate and participate in professional staff placements and volunteers
  • To participate in the organisation’s contribution to ensuring an effective response to civil and other emergencies using skills/expertise relevant to the functions of the post,
  • Maintain a comprehensive awareness of trends and developments in the field, and to identify and share areas of good practice
  • Comply with organisation’s data quality standards. Record and report instances of non-compliance, errors, omissions or inadequacies in procedures.

JTH is committed to supporting the development of all staff. All employees have a responsibility to maintain their professional registration participating in regular appraisal with their manager. They are expected to identify innovation, performance and development objectives for their post. The CIC has a training and development fund that is generously supported through the League of Friends and the income generation projects undertaken by staff. Everyone has equal access to this fund to support external training and development. It also helps to fund statutory and mandatory training which is run internally. Where staff are accredited or trained in their own right to deliver in-house training this is an opportunity afforded to them. Learning is one of our company strategic objectives and is supported through our experts by experience programme, volunteer training and staff development.
