Xerox Announces Document Centre 500 Series /1

NEW XEROX MULTIFUNCTION SYSTEM FAMILY SUPERCHARGES

OFFICE PRODUCTIVITY, PROCESSING JOBS UP TO 30 PERCENT FASTER

Xerox Document Centre 500 Series Offers Faster Output,

Expanded Network Options in a Smaller Footprint at Economical Prices

25 June2002, Bourne End, UK – Xerox announces a new generation of digital multifunction systems that are smaller, more powerful and feature buy-only-what-you-need options. Designed for small and mid-size workgroups, the Xerox Document Centre 500 Series network products can heighten office productivity with job processing speeds that are as much as 30 percent faster than competitive products.

The new Document Centre 500 Series digital multifunction systems offer cost- and efficiency-conscious users black-and-white print speeds of 35, 45 and 55 pages per minute (ppm) and expanded network and output options.

Results from Buyers Laboratory, Inc., a US-based independent organisation that tests office products, have shown that the Document Centre 500 Series is three times faster than similar competitive products in network processing speed when printing typical office jobs, such as e-mail with attachments, text documents or presentations.

“Office workers today are expected to do more with less. The Document Centre 500 Series products, which offer a level of efficiency and effectiveness that was previously available only to users of higher-speed products, are a way to meet that goal,” said Rod Rodericks, vice president and general manager of Xerox Office Europe. “Our new pricing demonstrates our determination to deliver the best possible package for every user in this market.”

One reason the Document Center 500 Series systems are more productive than competitive products is because Xerox offers product software which has been designed from the outset to enable concurrent execution of tasks - true multi-tasking. Walk-up users of other products must wait for a copying, faxing or scanning job to conclude before they can enter a new job, whereas the Document Centre products are able to queue walk-up jobs.

In addition to traditional multifunction capabilities -- print, copy, scan to e-mail and internet / server fax -- the 500 Series provides features that cut office costs and boost productivity as well as optional features enabling buyers to customize the system for their own office requirements:

  • Internet fax enables users to send hard copy documents over the Internet, avoiding telephone costs.
  • IEEE 802.11B wireless network connectivity capability enables printing or faxing from personal handheld devices.
  • A disk overwrite security option enables users to protect the confidentiality of their work by erasing print and scan jobs from the system’s hard drive immediately.
  • Expanded output and finishing options include an offset catch tray, a 2,000-sheet document stacker, a multiple position stapler and a 2-hole & 4-hole punch.
  • Modular design results in a footprint that is as much as 40 percent smaller than older models, saving valuable office floor space.
  • 10 amp service eliminates special power installation needs and increases placement flexibility.
  • Customer replaceable modules enable customers to swap equipment parts such as toner bottles and fuser units bypassing downtime associated with service calls.

In addition, these new products offer the crispest document quality available to office workgroups with true 600 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) copy resolution and up to 1800 dpi print resolution. They support the latest Windows environments.

Document Centre 500 Series systems, which have been designed and manufactured in Europe, will be offered in multiple configurations and prices. The base configuration includes two 550-sheet trays and a 100-sheet bypass tray. The high-capacity feeder configuration adds 2,000 and 1,600-sheet trays.
