FOR ORIGINAL ARTICLES BY CONTRIBUTING AUTHORS

Original articles written exclusively for Explore IM should be between 2000 and 3000 words, and should be written up as a .doc or .docx according to the following template.

Article Title

  • Keep the title succinct and to the point.
  • Author & Affiliation

Synopsis

One or two sentences summarizing the main concepts of the article.

The purpose of the synopsis is to provide readers a quick source of information if they do not have the time to read the entire piece.

Outline

Create a bulleted list of the key sections and/or main points of the article for readers to skip to each section.

Introduction

A short, descriptive paragraph to introduce thesis and/or topic to our audience: patients, students, and health professionals alike.

Body of Article

Try to write in a straightforward, informational style. Longer articles should have subsections, with their own titles, to break the text up for readability. Refer to cited references by reference list number.

Conclusion

A summary and overview of the implications of the article.

References

  • Numbered list to all cited PDFs, papers, peer-reviewed journals, etc.
  • All references should use JAMA style for citation. See .

Images

Each article has a minimum of one high quality photo or illustration .

  • Original photos or illustrations should include date and artist credit.
  • If an image from iStock is selected, indicate reference number.
  • If no image is provided, the website editor will choose from our own collection.

Once complete, please submit your article to your contact at the Center for East-West Medicine or to Explore IM Editor, . It will be uploaded into Google docs, where appropriate topic editors and copyeditors will be invited to participate in your revisions. For this purpose, please supply us with your Google account information so that you will have access to your article throughout the editing process.
