NAVIANCE CHECKLIST

Naviance is a multipurpose tool that allows us to assist you in your career and college planning. More importantly, this year, it is used to process all of your transcript requests – for colleges, programs, the military, the NCAA, and scholarships. It is imperative that you understand how Naviance works, and follow all steps accurately and in a timely fashion. Some of this process began during Junior Seminars and last spring. Find out where you are on the checklist, and continue through the process in Senior Seminars and throughout the rest of the year.

Requesting Teacher Recommendations

Each of your teachers has a Naviance account, and they will be able to upload their recommendations into Naviance. To make sure that their recommendations are sent in a timely fashion, be sure to communicate clearly to them your list of schools and their deadlines, and follow the steps below:

____ 7. Log into your Naviance account

Click on Colleges top tab

Under the My Colleges section, click on the “letters of recommendation” link and click on the aqua Add Request button.

Choose your teacher(s) in the drop down box and indicate the schools you would like them to send their letter to – in many cases, you will click the ALL box; if you have any schools that only allow 1 letter, you would click the individual school(s) to ensure that the 1 letter you specify is the only one that gets sent to that school(Naviance will warn you when you have requested the maximum accepted by each school)

You do not need to add anything in the “personal note to teacher” box, other than a thank you

Click the Submit Request button

____ 8. Send your teacher(s) a follow up email indicating which schools they should send their recommendation to and which schools not to – since Naviance is not a communication tool, and is only used by teachers to send your recommendations, you MUST provide your teachers with up to date, specific information on your schools, their deadlines and your recommendation needs by email

THE PROCESS ABOVE IS FOLLOWED FOR YOUR SCHOOLS THAT ACCEPT DOCUMENTS ELECTRONICALLY [COMMON APP (“CA” ICON) OR NON COMMON APP ELECTRONIC (COMPUTER MONITOR ICON)]

If the school(s) you are applying to have a postage stamp icon showing in the “Submissions” column (on your “Colleges I’m Applying To” page), your teacher recommendation(s) must be sent out hard copy in the mail. Work with your teacher(s) on how to best accomplish this – some will prefer to give you a copy and you can send it out yourself; for others, you will provide them with stamped, addressed envelopes (use the LHS address for the return address).

EACH TIME YOU APPLY TO MORE SCHOOLS, YOU MUST

FOLLOW STEPS 5, 6, 7 AND 8

Springtime Responsibilities

____ 9. Once you have decided on which school you will be attending, you must indicate the school in Naviance by logging into your account, clicking on Colleges I’m Applying To link, scrolling down to College that I am attending section, clicking on your school in the drop down menu, and clicking Update.

____ 10. Your final responsibility in Naviance is to complete the Graduation Survey (this is different than the survey The Musket puts out). You MUST complete this survey before you can pick up your cap and gown, as it is THE method for having your final transcript sent out. To complete this last task (woo hoo!), log into your Naviance account, click on About Me top tab. On the left side, under “surveys to take,” click on graduation survey link. Complete the survey, clicking continue until you receive the Graduation Survey Completed message – congrats, you’re done!
