16th Annual Log-A-Load Fundraiser Breaks Another Record for

MUSC Children’s Hospital!

Back Woods Quail Club, Rhems, SC

Saturday, April 5th, marked the 16th Annual “Klays for Kids” Sporting Clays Tournament at Back Woods Quail Club in Rhems, SC, to benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital. After last years’ $60,000 mark, we thought we had reached our limit – but we are able to say another record has been broken this year. The preliminary numbers confirm that we have reached $70,000!! We have a wonderful group of long time supporters who participate year after year, as well as many new sponsors that have given us some renewed spirit! THANK YOU to all who donated and participated to make this a success.

Each year, we have a family share their MUSC experience as a tribute to where the money goes that is raised through the Log-A-Load for Kids program. This year, 12 year old David Bishop not only shared his story, but competed in the Youth Class of the sporting clays event. His participation was a testimony in itself of how well he is getting along now, after being born at MUSC 12 years ago with a heart defect. David’s story was very moving and he expressed a huge thank you to the participants for supporting such a good cause.

We had 120 sponsors and 148 shooters participate on the day of the event. In addition to other prizes, three shotguns were awarded to the Lewis Class winners, one shotgun for the Loggers Class and one shotgun for the Youth (under 16) Class.

Co-chairs Deidra Holt and Amy McFadden would like to thank all of the volunteers (especially the 20+ trappers!) that worked so hard before the event and the day of the event to make it a great success.

Lunch: Dave Watford, Scott Bodiford and Stephen Eaddy barbequed 250 pounds of chicken, and Johnny Burroughs donated a chicken bog for a delicious lunch for all participants and volunteers. Pepsi of Georgetown donated soft drinks and chicken was donated by Piggly Wiggly in Georgetown and Bi-Lo in Kingstree. Bi-Lo also donated the baked beans, green beans, bread and 5 cases of water for the event.
