Ralph Cleveland
Chief Engineer and Vice President of Engineering and Construction
Ralph Cleveland was named chief and vice president of
engineering and construction in June 2002. In this position, he is responsible for developing and formulating overall policy and direction for the engineering and construction activities of the company. He directs areas include engineering and mapping services; new business construction; pipeline replacement; and the Department of Transportation accountabilities.
He previously served as vice-president of operations for Virginia Natural Gas Company. Cleveland was responsible for field service, distribution operations, local engineering design and construction, transmission pipeline operations, propane peak shaving operations, and customer care for Virginia.
Cleveland represented Atlanta Gas Light Company as manager of Southeast Georgia operations, and was responsible for operation activities for coastal Georgia region. Prior to his work in local gas distribution, he worked in oil and gas production, research and development, natural gas processing, and petrochemicals for Mobil Exploration and Producing, Mobil Research and Development, Mobil Chemical, and Exxon Mobil. His experience includes engineering management, operations and operations risk management, financial analysis and risk modeling, process development and design, and production facilities development and design.
Cleveland’s community experience includes having served as a member of the Virginia Beach Division Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads Area Chamber of Commerce, a board member for the Tidewater Chapter of the American Red Cross, and a board member of the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation. He was also a mayoral appointee to the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission. He now serves as Chair of the Fulton County Workforce Investment Board and is a Vice-Chair on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Chapter of The American Red Cross. He is also a board member of the Georgia Conservancy. He is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, the National Black MBA Association, as well as being a member of 100 Black Men, South Metro.
Cleveland received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech, completed post-graduate studies in mechanical engineering at Rice University in Houston, and received his Master’s degree in business administration from Tulane University in New Orleans.
