Conflict Worksheet

Directions: For each item, write which type of conflict it is and whether the conflict is internal or external. Also explain who or what is involved.

Example: Thirty years ago a tornado ripped through Oshkosh. My mom and I went down into the basement. While down there it got silent, and before we knew it a freight train barreled across our house. The whole foundation of the house shook, and mom cowered down and grasped onto the center pole, while shielding me with her body. Luckily, we made it out alive.

Human vs. Nature, External, Ms. Brooks and her mom versus the tornado.

1.  Robert had to trudge all the way to school through the freezing, blinding blizzard. As he walked, he would slip and slide on the ice that was covered up by the snow.

2.  Nathaline’s friend wanted her to come over. However, Nathaline knew that her mom wouldn’t approve, because her friend’s parents weren’t home. Nathaline did not know what to do. She debated for hours before finally telling her friend she couldn’t come over.

3.  Dylan’s brother kept poking and picking at him, while Dylan was trying to watch his favorite T.V. show. Dylan got angry, and yelled at his brother. His brother went and stood in front of the T.V. to get even.

4.  Georgette came to school one day and no one would talk to her, because she was gossiping and making-up stories about her friends. All the students decided that Georgette was a bully, and they wanted nothing to do with her.

5.  One day Tina was sitting in her language arts class, and the person behind her kept kicking the back of her seat. She asked Fred to stop kicking her seat. Fred didn’t stop, and didn’t even realize that he was kicking her seat. Finally, she turned and yelled, “Stop it, you jerk!” At that point Ms. Brooks walked over and asked both students to step out into the hallway. (Hint: This has more than 1 conflict in it.)
