Beth Clark is leading the sustainability efforts of Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont which includes 18 counties and 20 retail store operations. She also manages Goodwill Builders, an energy efficiency and green construction business enterprise, and the E-Waste and recycling divisions to maximize commodity volume, profitability and operations efficiency. Beth is a business development specialist with20 years experience in the environmental industry. She has worked as a consultant providing sustainability coaching, assessments and training to businesses andhas worked with the Sierra Club at the national level to develop policy, programs, financing and awareness of clean energy solutions.She is the formerExecutive Director of the Carolinas EcoCrescent and has worked as a program developer for the Catawba Lands Conservancy. Rich Deming is a partner at Calor Energy, where he heads up the Government Affairs practice. Rich works primarily in macro issues in solar and biofuels--pro formas, financing, etc. --and in obtaining and administering government funding for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Rich is the co-leader of Slow Food-Charlotte, where he started the Community Garden Collaborative, a board member and founder of Metrolina Biofuels, and a core stakeholder at the Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition. She was recognized for two prestigious awards from the Charlotte Business Journal. First, she was awarded the “2009 Outstanding Women in Business Achievement” award in the Charlotte area for her significant business accomplishments. Additionally, each year, the Business Journal identifies and honors 40 people under the age of 40 who are “making major strides in their careers and impacting their communities.” They recognized Kavita as the city's most promising young business leaders with the “2009 40-under-40” award. As the Energy and Sustainability Manager for the City, Mr. Phocas’ main responsibility is the successful implementation of the 17 projects the City chose as part of the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program. Mr. Phocas also works across the City on developing the City’s environmental policies. He received his law degree and a master’s in environmental economics and policyfrom Duke University and has worked for the private sector, nonprofits, the US EPA, and now the City of Charlotte.
