Villa Athena : Looking after the Villa

As you will notice when you arrive at Villa Athena, it is a home away from home for us and we want you to enjoy it as much as we do. Alex our villa manager will arrive on the second day of your arrival and introduce herself. She has lived on the island for years and will help you with any questions you may have. Whilst she is only a phone call away, and always happy to help please call her only if it is an emergency as she is really busy in summer and works for us as a villa manager rather than a tour operator ! To help the villa remain the same we would be grateful if you would please help us take care of it in the following way :

·  We understand that things can get broken, please inform Alex so she can replace the broken items. Also if something isn’t working properly please inform Alex so she can get it fixed and we can replace it if necessary.

·  We are trying hard to be environmentally friendly so please when you have the doors open day/night or when you go out for the day/night please ensure the air-conditioning is turned off.

·  Please use plastic glasses by the pool area and please hand wash these after use. The dishwasher temperature ruins the plastic.

·  Ladies please discard any sanitary products in the bins provided.

·  If it rains, which is very rare in the summer, please can you remove the sun lounge cushions and chair cushions and store them in a dry place. Equally if a very strong wind picks up , please could you do the same.

·  Please use towels on the sun loungers as sun cream will stain the cushions. Beach towels are provided. If there are not enough beach towels please use the beige towels for the pool area. The white towels are for in the villa only.

·  We have spent many years collecting antique furniture for the villa. Please take care of this. Also please use coasters for drinks on the coffee table, especially hot ones.

·  It is our responsibility to dispose of the rubbish. There is a skip at the entrance to the villa complex by the road. We recommend disposing daily of rubbish as it is not very pleasant in the summer to have it sitting in the kitchen, it also attracts the ants.

·  Ants also love food scraps on the counter so be thorough with wiping food benches.

·  Please take care when sitting on the lounge and dining room chairs inside with wet swimming clothes and no suntan cream on indoor chairs please. Also please don’t leave wet clothes on the bed throws or furniture inside.

·  If you have been to the beach please hose down before jumping into the pool as sand will block the filter. An outside shower is provided.

·  If you want to play music outside we have provided an ipod adapter and an ipod docking station which you can play through the stereo to outside ( see below) .

·  Please be careful when opening the brown glass sliding doors to the pool area. There is a special way of opening and closing these and please follow the instructions provided. Please ask Alex to show you if you are unsure.

·  The TV, DVD and Stereo may seem complicated initially to work out but follow the instructions provided.

Most of all please have fun and enjoy the villa and the sun and fantastic food.

VILLA ATHENA, LINDOS

OPERATION OF TV AND STEREO

As with many modern stereos, engineers do their up most to avoid a simple off /on button and rely on everyone having a degree in rocket science to switch the TV on.

Please follow the instructions below and you should find that it all works fine:

PLEASE ALWAYS SWITCH ALL POWER UNITS OFF WHEN NOT IN USE TO AVOID OVERHEATING

1.  SATELLITE TV

Switch Samsung TV on by pressing big central power button

Pick up Controller for Necobox satellite box and press orange button for power.

List ‘OK ‘ on central switch on Necobox controller

Adjust volume with +/- buttons on Samsung controller to the middle left of the controller

If no picture comes up , then press the ‘source’ button on the Samsung controller in the middle left of the controller panel until a display appears on the TV which says ‘Ext 1 ‘ at which point you should receive the satellite feed.

ON the satellite controller press ‘List OK’ and scroll up and down for channels.

There are over 200 channels but we have saved BBC world and CNN and various movie channels and sports

2.  DVD player

We have left various children’s and adults DVDs in the drawers of the TV cabinet to be borrowed.

The slim Pioneer box is both a DVD/CD player and a radio and an amplifier.

Press power on on the Pioneer box or its controller

Make sure that the Necobox satellite box has power off

If no picture comes up , then press the ‘source’ button on the Samsung TV controller in the middle left of the controller panel until a display appears on the TV which says ‘AV ‘ at which point you should receive the DVD feed.

Press ‘play ‘ on the Pioneer controller or box.

For sound , press +/- on the Pioneer controller or box until you get to a level of around 20 -25 for comfortable listening.

On occasion, the sound may appear muffled. This will be because the surround sound is not switched on for the 5 speakers around the room (check by listening to speaker mounted between the 2 sliding doors in the middle of the room). To correct this , pick up the Pioneer controller and at the bottom of the controller you will find a button on the bottom left marked ‘shift’ and to the right of it a couple of buttons along there is a button marked ‘sleep / surround’.

Press both at the same time. You may need to do this 2 or 3 times until the read out on the Pioneer box says ‘auto’ or ‘dalby’ as opposed to stereo and you will hear the difference.

3.  Stereo

Load CD into Pioneer player (there are CDs left in the bottom of the cabinet)

Press ‘shift’ and ‘sleep / surround’ until you can hear all 5 speakers working inside as for instructions on DVD player above (although I think the readout will indicate ‘stereo’ when it works properly).

FOR SOUND to the outside speakers;

Press power on Yamaha box (bottom left).

Turn input dial (second left) until CD/DVD appears on the read out screen and sound will go to the outside speakers.

If there is no sound , check that the button ‘speaker A’ is pressed in at the bottom middle of the Yamaha control panel.

Volume is adjusted with the large dial on the right of the control panel.

In order to play an ipod separately to outside speakers:

Clip the transmitter (a white device left on top of the TV cabinet the shape of a small battery) into the base of your ipod. This automatically transmits a signal on 87.9 FM.

Place the ipod on the top of the TV cabinet (the stereo wire emerges at the top of the cabinet and collects the signal)

Alternatively please use the docking station provided for ipods.

Turn the input dial on the Yamaha to ‘tuner’ and adjust until 87.9 is indicated on the display panel.

Have fun and hope it all goes well but please do not call me for further information as all I know is written on these instructions. IF something breaks then please contact the villa manager, Alex.
