A RESOLUTION recognizing Kentucky Music Weekend as the premier Kentucky Folk Music Festival upon the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary in July, 2000.
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend has been performed continuously for twenty-five years at the Iroquois Amphitheater in Iroquois park located in Louisville, Kentucky, the last weekend in July; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend celebrates Kentucky's diverse musical heritage by showcasing Kentucky-born performers and Kentucky-style music and instruments, along with traditional dance and crafts; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend strives to present artists performing music that is uniquely Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend has evolved into a statewide event by presenting Kentucky-style music and musicians throughout the Commonwealth at mini-weekends prior to the Louisville festival in July; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend has been a free event for the citizens of the Commonwealth for twenty-five years; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend has attained a national and international reputation that attracts audiences and performers locally, out-of-state and out-of-country; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky Music Weekend has been the opportunity for the public to see and listen to such legendary Kentucky artists as Jean Ritchie, John Jacob Niles, Asa Martin and Lily May Ledford;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body is proud to recognize Kentucky Music Weekend as Kentucky's premier Folk Music Festival, occurring the last full weekend in July.
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Ms. Nancy Johnson Barker, Iroquois Amphitheater Association, P. O. Box 21057, Louisville, Kentucky 40221.
