Here are the major learning targets we will cover in the first quarter:

1.  7th graders will learn how to take and use Cornell Notes.

2.  7th graders will be Introduced to and use the writing process (PDREP) to improve their writing.

3.  7th graders will read, analyze, and annotate three personal narratives. They will write three of their own personal narratives using the writing process (PDREP).

The KEY standards that will be covered in the first quarter:

1. Compare and contrast the structure and meaning of texts and make connections across texts (LT01 7.7.9.9).

2. Write informative texts, narratives and other creative texts (LT05 7.7.3.3.A).

3. Read and write a variety of text independently (LT08 7.5.10.A).

Materials:

·  7th graders need a 3-ring binder with dividers for every class with one being labeled ELA.

·  7th graders need a writing utensil, independent reading book, I-pad, and planner.

·  7th graders need one sheet of lined paper in their binder for warm-ups.

·  7th graders always need two blank pieces of paper for Cornell Notes.

Class Expectations:

1)  Raise your hand to ask a question or leave your seat.

2)  Have integrity by doing your own work and helping others when needed.

3)  Internalize your learning!

4)  Never quit when you feel the task is too difficult.

5)  Only talk to peers and teachers with respect

·  When a rule is not followed: Reminder, Break with quick-conference, Break #2 with call home, Referral

PASS POLICY:

·  If a student is tardy they will not be able to use a pass for that day.

LATE WORK and HOMEWORK POLICY:

All work and announcements will be put on Google-Classroom. The google-classroom access code is: ______.

1.  Late work/redos will be accepted up to one week after the initial assignment was due (or turned back for redo work). Late work will not qualify for exemplary work (4s).

2.  Some assignments, such as daily work that needs to be finished at home may be due the next day with no exceptions.If you have an emergency, and need an extension on an assignment, please speak to me as soon as possible.

3.  If you miss a warm-up, it is the student’s job to ask Mr. Gallagher for the previous day’s warm-up. Late warm-ups will not qualify for exemplary work (4s)

Phone Policy:

Phones or electronics cannot be seen or heard unless Mr. Gallagher gives directions to use them for educational purposes.

If a phone or electronic is seen or heard:

·  2nd time: Given to the dean

·  3rd time: Given to dean with a call home from Mr. Gallagher

GRADING POLICIES:

Your grade is based on a 1-4 grading scale and percent (80%/20%)

4=Exemplary (A 90%-100%)

3= Proficient (B 65%-89%)

2=Partially Proficient (C 40%-64%)

1= Not Proficient (D 25%-39%)

NE=No Evidence (0%-24.9%)

·  80% (A) Assessments: major writing assignments, tests, group projects, reading reflections, quizzes

·  20% (W) Work Habits: Warm-ups, minor writing/reading assignments, homework, group presentations, notes

CHEATING:

Cheating will not be tolerated. Examples of cheating include copying from other students in class or outside of class, talking during a test (even if you are already finished with the test), sharing your answers with other students, and plagiarizing (using information from published sources without citing it). DO YOUR OWN WORK!

Ø  The first offense will result in a zero and a conference between the teacher and student.

Ø  The second offense will result in a zero and a phone call home from the teacher.

Ø  The third offense will result in a zero, a phone call home from the teacher, and an office referral.

Ø  No make-ups or second chances will be given if you cheat on a quiz or test.

Consequences:

1)  Reminder: Not Raising Hand, interrupting the teacher, not seated

2)  2-3 Minute break with a quick-talk: multiple reminders of minor offense or disrespect

3)  2nd Break/Call-Home/Referral: Putting hands on someone, more than one reminder of bullying
