Over the last 5 years, ALM has attracted more than 350 people to attend conferences and become members. These current statistics would seem to suggest a steep decline in ALM’s ability to retain members that may warrant further investigation. Whether current membership is determined by the payment or otherwise of a membership may not be a true reflection of a person’s enthusiasm for ALM, is for future trustees to decide. However, I would like to propose the following changes:
· In future the conference fee should be sufficient to include the membership fee for that year
· People who wish to retain their membership, but do not or cannot attend the conference should pay the membership fee for that year
· Those attending conferences for the first time (i.e. Freshers) should not retain membership for the following year, unless they pay the membership fee for that year
