SMART proudly presents this one-day seminar on skills essential for performance (especially but not exclusively agility) pups from 8 weeks to one year. This is a lecture-demonstration of skills (no working spots but we may contact you if we need a pup or adult dog for a demonstration). These foundation behaviors, appropriate for beginner agility dogs of any age, include

• retrieving
• stays & releases
• recalls
• position training-sit, down, stand
• balance work
• running flat work• and more...
Nancy Gyes: Although a successful trainer and competitor in obedience, tracking, and canine behavioral counseling since 1984, Nancy is best known as one of the world’s foremost agility competitors and trainers, an AKC World Team member 7 times, Assistant World Coach in 2005 and Coach of the AKC World Team since 2006. Nancy is the first handler ever to win USDAA National/World Championships 4 years in a row. Her dogs have earned 7 ADCHs, and three MACHs or multi-MACHs. A full-time agility instructor and competitor, she and her husband Jim Basic operate Power Paws Agility in San Jose. Nancy has taught seminars all over the United States and in Japan & Korea and has written many articles for the AKC Gazette, the USDAA Report, and especially Clean Run magazine, where she has a monthly column and in 2007-2008 wrote the acclaimed puppy training series “Spy Kids.”
Seminar fee: $75 (SMART members who have worked at a SMART event in the past year get a 20% discount ($60). Fee includes morning and afternoon munchies and drinks but BYO lunch.
