Fred Cavender, age 78, of Jackson, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough, Georgia.

Fred Cavender was born in Gaddistown, Georgia to the late William Edger Cavender and Lottie Mae Carder Cavender. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He lived in Atlanta for a number of years before moving to Jackson in 1971. Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Before retirement, Fred worked as the Vice President over maintenance for the Consolidated Equities Corporation for 30 years. His hobbies included trout fishing and gardening. Brother, Oscar Cavender preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jacqueline Rainwater Cavender of Jackson; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bobby Costea of Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Karla and Bob Tuggle of Monticello; grandchildren, Bobby Mack Costea, Ana Maria Costea, Glade William Tuggle, and Lucy Kate Tuggle; and sisters and brothers, Myrtle Cleaton of Atlanta, William Carl Cavender of Pavo, Pearl Dunn of Dickson, Texas, Patrick E. Cavender of Rancho Viejo, Texas, and Blanche Gary of Tampa, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 2607 New Hope Church Road, Monticello, Georgia 31064. Rev. Clyde Carter will officiate.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jay Cofield, Brent Cofield, Rick Allen, Neal Cleaton, David Cavender, and Anthony Cavender. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Allen and David Blackwell.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Jordan Funeral Home, Monticello, Georgia.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253 or Piedmont Academy’s Grandparents Club, PO Box 231, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
