Introduction
Applications are invited from the community for Indigo Shire’s 2017-2018Community Grants Program under the following categories:
- Community Grants – General
- Community Grants – Arts & Cultural Initiatives
- Community Grants – Youth Initiatives Grants
Applicantsare encouraged to contact Council to discuss the suitability of their project before lodging an application
Funding available in 2017-2018
Atotal of $47,500 is available for ‘General’ and ‘Arts and Culture’ projects in 2017-2018. In addition, $2,500 is available for ‘Youth Initiatives’. Successful grantswill range from $200 to $4,000.

Please read through the Community Grants Policy (page 3 of this Grants Information Pack) and the Criteria for Assessment of Grants (page 4 of this Pack) for more information on eligibility criteria, application requirements, GST information and other conditions.
Attending a Community Grant Workshops
Council will be holding workshops to explain the application process, answer any questions from the community and showcase the types of projects which may be funded. Applicants are encouraged to attend a grant workshop.

POLICY

Community Grants Program
POLICY:
Council acknowledges and accepts the need to provide financial assistance to groups and organisations either locally based or those meeting a demonstrated need within the Shire where alternative grants aid are limited or not available and a clearly defined objective can be targeted.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
- To establish a process whereby groups and organisations meeting the eligibility criteria laid down by Council are afforded the opportunity of making a formal application which can be evaluated in accordance with specific guidelines established by Council to ensure equity in consideration.
- In establishing eligibility criteria Council will be seeking to ensure that the grant is used to the best advantage of the community at large with particular emphasis on the disadvantaged and specific need groups and organisations.
- To ensure all applications for financial assistance are considered in a consistent manner and are based on merit in conjunction with all other priorities.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Applications will be considered only from locally based groups and organisations or those meeting a demonstrated need within the Shire.
- One application per group
- Preference will be given to applications for projects where funding is not available from other sources.
- The group or organisation must be non-profit making and open to or accessible by Indigo Shire residents.
- All applicant organisations must either be incorporated, be auspiced by another group or become incorporated as a condition of funding.
- Groups must demonstrate a significant contribution in the form of cash, voluntary service or in kind support.
- The applicant must have appropriate public liability insurance
- Applications will not be considered within the following categories:
- Individuals
- Groups already in receipt of significant support from Council
- Programs considered the major responsibility of State or Federal Government.
- Applications by commercial or private organisations
- Retrospective funding i.e. projects that have already been started or have been completed
Criteria for Assessment of Grants
The assessment of all Grant Applications is the responsibility of the Indigo Shire Community Advisory Committee (ISCAC). The recommendations from this assessment are then submitted to Council for consideration.
ISCAC will use the following list of criteria to assess applications to Indigo Shire’s 2017-2018 Community Grants Program. Each point is rated out of 10 with a final score out of 50.
Please ensure each of the criteria items beloware addressed in your application.
- Funding for the project is not readily available from other sources
- There is a contribution by the applicant e.g. cash, volunteer labour etc
- The project responds innovatively to an identified Council plan 2017 -2021 priority.
- The project promotes diverse community engagement and participation.
- The project aligns with one of the following:
5a. The project is social and/or educational in nature OR
5b. The project improves the quality of local facilities and / or equipment OR
5c.The project improves community access to facilities & services OR
5d.The project addresses a knowledge or skills gap
