All information in this fact sheet refers to working aged recipients of the benefits concerned. Please note also that trends in numbers receiving main benefits are more reliably shown by comparisons between the same quarter 12 months apart than by comparisons between consecutive quarters.

Between September2001 and September2006, the number of working aged people receiving main benefits in the Taranaki region as a whole has decreased by 4,544 (22 percent).

Over this period, the number of working aged people receiving main benefits:

  • decreased in all of the nine service centres in the Taranaki region
  • showed a steeper decrease than the overall figure for the Taranaki region in five of the nine service centres.

Between September2001 and September2006, the number of working aged people receiving Unemployment Benefits in the Taranaki region as a whole has decreased by 4,390 (59 percent). Over this period, the number of working aged people receiving Unemployment Benefits:

  • decreased in all of the nine service centres in the Taranaki region
  • showed a steeper decrease than the overall figure for the Taranaki region in five of the nine service centres.

Between September2001 and September2006, the number of working aged people receiving Domestic Purposes Benefits in the Taranaki region as a whole has decreased by 946 (15 percent). Over this period, the number of working aged people receiving Domestic Purposes Benefits:

  • decreased in eight of the nine service centres in the Taranaki region
  • showed a steeper decrease than the overall figure for the Taranaki region in three of the nine service centres.

Between September2001 and September2006, the number of working aged people receiving Sickness Benefits in the Taranaki region as a whole has increased by 505 (33 percent). Over this period, the number of working aged people receiving Sickness Benefits:

  • increased in eight of the nine service centres in the Taranaki region
  • showed a smaller increase than the overall figure for the Taranaki region in three of the nine service centres, and a decrease in one additional service centre.

  • showed a smaller increase than the overall figure for the Taranaki region in five of the nine service centres.
