ACUCA STUDENT MOBILITY SCHEME

Established in 2002, the ACUCA Student Mobility Scheme aims to foster a better understanding of Asian communities and cultures among ACUCA students. Under the Scheme, member institutions that have courses taught in English in either regular semester or summer sessions will exchange tuition waivers to enable students to study tuition-free at an institution outside of their own country for a semester or during the summer. ACUCA assistance will come in the form of an airfare subsidy.

Filamer Christian University has student population of more than 4,000. Its school site is located in Roxas Avenue, Roxas City, Province of Capiz, Region VI, Philippines. In more than five hectares and its 17 hectares Dinginan Eco-Tourism Development Project, its main campus is situated on hilly terrain with several buildings interconnected by steps and cemented walks. It continues to acquire properties such as its annex campus, and build new buildings. Despite destructions of Century trees by needed expansion and typhoons, its location provides a healthy “pollution free” environment.
It was awarded a deregulated status by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) on October, 2009 until the present and a university status on July 14, 2010. Presently, Filamer is headed by its university President, Rev. Dr. Domingo J. Diel, Jr. More about Filamer at www.filamer.edu.ph
Courses Description:
Philippine History. This course is a survey of the Social, Political and Cultural history of the Philippines. It examines and interprets the historical development of the collective struggles of the Filipino people for nation-building. This course begins with the study of the early cultural developments of the native communities, and trace their reactions and struggles as they confronted western colonizations from Spanish colonial period to the coming of American occupation during the 20th century including the challenges posed by the 2nd World War. This subject also attempts to introduce to the students of the Philippine History the evolution of the republican and democratic form of government embraced by the Filipinos.
Cross-cultural Communication. This is design to discuss the dynamic of cross cultural communication with focus on English as the global language.
Literary Criticism. This course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of the different literatures whether in poems, short stories, novels, films and others.
Literatures of the Philippines. This course is a study of literary forms or genres as exemplified by selected literary texts from various regions of the Philippines.
Literatures of the World. This course presents the continued study of literary form or genres, exemplified by selected literary texts from various countries of the continents of the world: from Southeast Asia, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, South America and Europe written during historical periods.
Kumunikasyon sa Akademikong Filipino. Isang metalinggwistik na pag-aaral sa gamit ng akademikong Filipino sa iba’t-ibang sitwasyon at larangan. Sa paraang interdisiplinaryo at interaktibo inaasahang maunawaan at malilinang sa mga estudyante ang mga kailangan kaalaman at kasanayan sa paggamit ng Filipino sa lalong mataas na edukasyon.
Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary Building. This course is designed to enhance reading ability of students as well as deepen their understanding in any written materials. Skills in reading will be discussed in this course as well as vocabulary building that will be helpful for them in taking any examinations.
Interactive English. This course aims to train students on how to speak English well. Varied activities are designed to achieve fluency on the use of the English language.
English Grammar. This course intends to review, study, and analyze grammar for the students develop language proficiency in the use of the English language both oral and written.
Business English. This course deals on technical writing and it aims to equip students and professionals in any field on their writing skills like business letters, reports, project proposals, feasibility studies and other forms of communications. The use of computer and other internet services like emails, video conferencing and other types of presentations will be included in this study.
English Foreign Students. This course especially targets the needs of foreign students particularly in listening and speaking, grammar and writing, interpersonal and group communication, reading comprehension and literature. It uses varied written and oral activities designed to increase students’ communicative competence.
Speech and Public Speaking. This course serves to train students to prepare manuscripts. Proper guidelines in writing will be discussed and applied. Delivering of different speeches will be conducted by the students. Important tips in the delivery will be emphasized and practiced.
Speech Communication Improvement. This course focuses with pronunciation, word and sentences stress, intonation exercises designed to stimulate self-expression through storytelling, reports and oral presentations, dialogues, public speaking, declamation, oration, dramatization, and oral interpretation of literary pieces. Corrections in grammar will also be one of the purposes aside from building self-confidence in public speaking.
English Proficiency Course. This course will help enhance and reinforce the communication skills of students who are using English as a foreign language. Meaningful experience will be facilitated.
