Events Assistant Intern

This internship is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable hands on experience in charity fundraising and events management. As a member of our dynamic events team you will be working closely with the special events team to deliver one of the charity’s most high profile event – The Celebrity Sports Quiz

The Celebrity Sports Quiz, one of the hottest dates in the charity’s calendar, will be held in the Long Room at Lord’ Cricket Ground on Thursday 26th March.

Sue Barker, Question of Sport Presenter and MDC President plays Quiz Master and she’ll be joined by host for the evening; Martin Bayfield, Former Rugby Union Player,BBC Crimewatch and BT Sport Rugby Presenter.

Also in attendance will be two tables of famous personalities from the world of sports and entertainment competing against guests for the winning title, and in turn helping raise vital funds for the charity.

What will I be doing?

  • Supporting the special events team on delivering the event: coordinating raffle prizes, production of materials, liaising with companies and recruiting volunteers
  • Contacting celebrities and celebrity agents
  • Writing the event programme
  • Carrying out administrative tasks
  • Helping to run the event on the night

What skills do I need?

  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Experience in marketing or fundraising is desirable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for building relationships with supporters
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confidence in using basic PC applications
  • Research skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • An interest in events management
  • An interest in charity fundraising and in working with the many different volunteers who support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

How much time do I need to commit?

We are looking to for someone to commit at least 3 days a week for a minimum of 8 weeks. Must be available to start immediately.

What support will I be given?

  • You will be provided with a mentor from each team with whom you will have regular development meetings
  • A induction to the fundraising teams at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign – volunteer fundraising, events, corporate, trusts and supporter services
  • Lunch (up to £5) and travel (within zone 1-6) to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign office will be reimbursed
  • You will become a full and integral part of the Fundraising team and will be able to draw on the team for advice and guidance.
