Minutes of Meeting, 4 January 2012

The meeting was held at the Forney Transportation Museum, 3202 Brighton Blvd., Denver, Colorado.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Dick Thompson, at 7:29 pm. Officers present were Dick Thompson, president; Gary Canady, 1st vice president; Mel Bacon, 2nd Vice President; Dick Fritz, secretary; and Tom Kay, treasurer. 40 member clubs were represented. New representatives and guests were introduced.

Legislative issues: Leo Boyle noted that the 2012 legislative session will begin on January 11 and run for 120 days. He expects it to be “nasty and ugly”. The recent redistricting has added to the usual controversies. One consequence of the redistricting is that Rep. Marsha Looper, one of our strongest supporters, will next year be in a district for which she will have a primary selection contest with another current representative, Amy Stephens. The caucus for that seat will be held February 7th. If anyone wishes to assist the campaign with a financial donation, it should be sent to: C T E Marsha Looper (that’s Campaign To Elect …), 23935 Sweet Road, Calhan CO 80808. Her web site is www.gomarsha.org.

Guest Speaker: Gayle Jetchek of the Havana BID described the Grocery Car Races to benefit the Comitis Crisis Center to be held January 24th, 7 pm, at the Safeway store at Mexico and Havana in Aurora. Teams compete to fill grocery carts with items to be donated to the Comitis Center. It was moved, seconded, and approved that the CCCC donate $100 and field a four person team. The CCCC cart will carry signs and promotion for the CCCC events. Cheer leaders will be welcomed.

Forney Museum Corvette Display: Rick Nelson described the Corvette display to highlight 30 cars February through April. About eight additional cars beyond those already committed are needed. Cars sought include ’63 coupe, ’64, ’68-’69, ’73, ’74-’82, C6 coupe, C6 Z06, C6 ZL1. If anyone can add cars to the exhibit, please give a call to Rick at 303-325-7401 or email .

Minutes of the December 7th meeting were approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report: Tom Kay provided the following balances as of the end of 2011:

ASSETS:

Operating Account: $1174.89

Govt.Relations Account: -2155.00

Swap Meet Account: 14507.38

2012 Swap Meet pre-reg: 210.00

Cruise account: 5785.54

Accounts total= $ 19522.81 (in checking account)

LIABILITIES:

Swap Meet Pre-Reg.: $210.00

NET WORTH = $ 19312.81

It was moved and seconded that funds be transferred from the Swap Meet Account to cover the deficit in the Governmental Relations Account. Motion passed unanimously.

The Treasurer’s Report was approved as presented.

Colorado Springs meetings, April and September: It will not be possible to hold the traditional CCCC meetings in the Springs at the Falcon Police Station this year because of a scheduling conflict. It was suggested that the meetings be moved to the following Thursdays but this was withdrawn. Another location, hopefully still on the north side of Colorado Springs, will be sought.

February meeting: Presidents Night. See notice of Next Meeting at the end of these minutes.

Budgets: Treasurer Tom Kay presented a detailed summary of actual expenses in 2011. The year turned out to be profitable rather than with expected deficits. He then presented the proposed budgets for 2012, which are again conservative. There will be the additional expense of web site management and a phone answering system. Following discussion, each of the budgets (Operating Account, Government Relations Account, Swap Meet Account, and Cruise Account) was separately moved, seconded, and passed unanimously. It was then approved to have club renewal club dues remain at $60, individual member dues set at $20, and associate member dues be $100. The per-member assessment for the Govt. Relations will remain at $4, and the club membership is understood to be the total as of the end of the preceding year, in this case whenever a club’s fiscal year ended in 2011. A renewal form will be included with these minutes. Please use this form rather than the more lengthy application as it will tell us where and how to send out meeting minutes and notices.

Web site: The CCCC web site will be completely revamped, with a page available for each member club’s information. There will be a search feature, and a members only section for restricted information like budgets.

Colorado Collector Car News: The council’s feature newsletter is published by email distribution by Greg Akiyama. CCCN is a good place to advertise upcoming club events as is The Latest Scoop. Greg needs the support of individuals, club, and advertisers. To receive the CCCN (free by email), contact .

Tri-State (Sabers) Swap Meet, Feb. 4-5: CCCC will rent a space at the swap meet at the National Western Complex in Denver to meet people and promote our events and causes. Admission would not be free, but cost is reasonable. Volunteers are needed to work shifts of 8 AM – 1 PM and 1 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, and 8 AM – 11 AM and 11 AM – 2 PM on Sunday. Give Dick Thompson a call (303-929-5533) if you can help.

Tax status: Dick Thompson is looking into the possibility of applying for 501(C) (7) status with help from a CPA. He will report later regarding pros and cons.

Badges: Roger Zaner and Bill Hunter will explore sources of name badges for representatives.

Thoughts and Concerns: Don Joy (individual member) is recovering from injuries suffered in a fall, and James Sears (Buick Club) is ill with cancer. Our thoughts and best wishes for recovery are with them.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, February 1, at Unser Racing, 7300 Broadway (the old Spedding Chevrolet building) in Denver. This is Presidents’ night, so all club CEOs are invited. There will be food provided by Quaker Steak and Lube. The informal part of the meeting begins at 6 pm, with food and information from guest speakers. As part of the business meeting (starting at 7:30 pm), there will be a “Presidents Round Table” discussion to exchange ideas about how we can support each other and work toward promoting the collector car hobby. To reach this location from the south, exit I-25 at 58th Ave., go west to Broadway and turn north.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:04 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Richard Fritz, secretary
