Style Online- The Chicago Manual of Style- FAQ

E-mail or email? Online or on-line? Wondering where to break a URL at the end of line, or how many spaces to put after a fullstop? The answers are here. While certainly not a comprehensive guide, the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) FAQ nonetheless answers some of the questions that commonly vex writers editors, and librarians. If you don't find what you're looking for here, CMS provides an email address for you to write and ask directly.

Doctor Who - The Official Site

A site for fans of the television series. Highlights include a history of Who, information on each of the eight Doctors, a comprehensive episode guide, audio and video clips, trivia quizzes, an alien fact file, Doctor Who news, and even a virtual TARDIS!

Searching for images on the web

Images can now be searched on the WWW thanks to a couple of search engines who have attached an Image Search functionality to their sites.

provides access from their homepage. Users can select from Web Pages, Pictures, Video, MP3 Files and FTP Files. It provides access to 70 million files.

to access their Image search, click on Advanced Search. This is a beta tool. At last count, this facility could search up to 250 million images.

The Economist has placed online a very useful reference collection of country profiles, which contain background information, forecasts and statistics, market updates, new headlines, articles from the newspaper, and links to more information. These profiles may prove helpful to a variety of users and can be browsed by country.

The Glossarist

This comprehensive directory offers one-stop glossary shopping, with over 4,500 glossaries, 679 of which have been cataloged into 130 categories. Visitors may search the directory by keyword or browse for a glossary by topic (and then category).

The Newspaper Archive

The Newspaper Archive is the world's largest free public access online historic newspaper database. More than 400,000 pages of historic newspapers including The New York Times are online now with 2,000 more pages being added every day. It presently contains several American newspapers, but it will place any of the following language newspaper microfilm
online in a full-text, full-image database: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, and Norwegian.

Environmental Site to check out-Worldbiomes.com

Aquatic, desert, forest, grasslands, and tundra are five of Earth's major biomes, which

are regions distinguished by their climate, fauna, and flora, presented at Worldbiomes.com. From the site's main page, users follow links to individual pages on each of the biomes. Each biome page briefly describes the biome, presents colour photographs, gives a handful of links to topical sites, and suggests related readings (note: clicking on a book title bounces you to a

shopping site). Other features of this site include a section for environment and weather news, a discussion board, and more biome-related links.
