Patrice M. Weiss, MD, is Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Carilion Clinic and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

She previously served as chair and residency program director of the Department of Ob/Gyn, as well as medical director of the Carilion Clinic Breast Care Center.Dr. Weiss was the vice chair of Education, Research and Academic Compliance as well as the residency program director and clerkship director at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. She was the first medical director of Risk Management for Lehigh Valley Physicians Group.

In 2016 and 2017, Dr. Weiss was named one of Becker's Hospital Review's "100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know." The list is based on their experience in overseeing medical and quality affairs.

In January, 2016, Dr. Weiss began working on the American Hospital Association Committee on Clinical Leadership.

Dr. Weiss is a past chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and was an ex-officio member of the Committee on Professional Liability and the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care Steering Committee. She is a member of the Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Healthcare as the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology (SASGOG).She serves on the Board of the Blue Ridge Indemnity Captive and helped implement the Risk Management Reduction Committee and the Second Victim Task Force at Carilion Clinic.

Dr. Weiss is a past member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Ob/GynResidency Review Committee.She was recently appointed to the ACGME Accreditation Appeals Panel. Dr. Weiss is a founding board member of the Society of Academic Specialists in General Ob/Gyn and has served on the board of directors for the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She is also a pastprogram chair for the Council of Residency Education of Ob/Gyn(CREOG). In addition, she served as a member of the CREOG Education Committee, Executive Committee and the Council.

Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from Hahnemann University (Drexel) School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. She completed her residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital as well as a Fellowship in Academic Leadership with the Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She is a Fellow of ACOG and an oral board examiner and a test-writer for Maintenance of Certification with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has participated in the development of patient safety modules and the Patient Safety Leadership Work Group.

Dr. Weiss has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and authored, co-authored, and edited textbooks and textbook chapters. She has been an invited speaker on physician engagement, large clinic employed physician-models, physician recruitment and retention, physician compensation models as well as the transformation of health care from volume-based to value-based structures. She also lectures nationallyon her passion onphysician engagement and leadership, medical education, risk management and professional liability, patient safety, medical error, communication and emotional intelligence. Dr. Weiss spoke internationallyat the JapaneseSociety of Ob/Gyn in Tokyo in April 2014.

Dr. Weiss lives in Roanoke with her husband, Frank G. Finch, M.D., and their two children, Frank and Rachel.
