“Posh pooches lap up dog day afternoons”

By Kimberley Le Lievre

Fancy having high tea with your pet pup? As part of Canberra’s newest dog-dedicated event A Pooch Affair, organisers are encouraging dog lovers and their dogs to dress up for limited sessions of high tea.

The event will be held on July 18 from 10am to 4pm at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

The dining experience will be one of a variety of events on offer on the day, including market stalls and entertainment including dancing with dogs.

At just under $50 for a person and a dog, high tea offers the chance for owners to indulge in a selection of sweet and savoury treats, a glass of champagne and a ranges of teas and gourmet treats from Pupcake Bakery and a puppycino for your four-legged friend.

Prizes for best dresses will be awarded on the day.

EPIC Marketing Manager Paula Sanchez said a survey to “test the waters” attracted more than 400 respondents.

“We were making sure there was a need to run the event and a market interested in attending the event,” she said.

“There was quite a lot of interest from the dog community.”

The exclusive high tea experience was one of the points of difference for the event.

Ms Sanchez said places were limited and tickets were now on sale.

“People can come and sit down at a table with their dog and dine together,” she said.

“It’s an elegant affair.”

As well as high tea, a doggie diner will be on offer for a more casual dining affair.

A Pooch Affair has partnered with Dogs ACT to develop the entertainment.

The event has welcomed and official charity partner in RSPCA ACT, with gold coin donation for every dog in attendance going directly to the rescue charity.
