Laura Ashley,

Unit A1,

London Road Retail Park,

London Road,

Biggleswade, Beds,

SG18 8PS

Dear Vicky Layton,

I am writing to express my interest in an opening for a 12 hour, part time sales assistant in your Biggleswade branch of Laura Ashley, as I understand that one of your current staff is leaving and the vacancy will soon be advertised. Given the rising interest in 2012 especially for lifestyle brands that are quintessentially British and based upon country living and the quality and originality that Laura Ashley is famous for, I would love to be part of your team for this (hopefully busy!) summer as a part time member of staff, before I go back in the autumn for my third year of university. I have had experience working in a retail environment that sells both clothing and homeware, and my current and previous jobs are focussed around a great deal of customer service, so would like to put myself forward as a bright and motivated candidate for a job in the more exclusive end of lifestyle retail.

I am currently still in Exeter, where I study English Literature and work part time at the University library, but will be returning to Bedfordshire as of next week (26th June), and will be available to work until the beginning of September, when I return to university. I have no current commitments during the week and am happy to combine a variety of flexible hours as and when needed. I am extremely interested in the branding of Laura Ashley and the products it sells and the values it stands for, and although sales assistants are likely to be situated primarily on the shop floor, I believe a strong interest in a company’s products is only likely to increase my ability to help and identify with customers. I am exceptionally hard working and efficient, bright and pride myself on my creativity and ability to transform a shop floor (especially messy ones as I have previously worked on) into something attractive and appealing.

Attached is a copy of my CV and your store’s application form, which I have filled in. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Meriel Royal

BA English Literature student, University of Exeter
