Notes to accompany “Introduction to PARCC” video for Systemic PD on January 31, 2014
- History of PARCC:
- An assessment designed to measure the Common Core State Standards
- Created with 17 states – Maryland is a governing state in the consortium
- PARCC stands for- Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers
- Structure of PARCC:
- Made up of two components: PBA and EOY
- Offered in math and literacy
- PBA: Performance Based Assessment (March time frame)
- Literary Task, Narrative Task, and Research Task
- 2 Sessions of Math
- EOY: End of Year Assessment (May time frame)
- 2 sessions of ELA
- 2 sessions of Math
- Accessibility features and Accommodations offered
- Accessibility features are available to all students
- Accommodations will continue to be offered. Some accommodations may be administered differently or are now considered accessibility feature.
- Scoring will no longer be advanced, proficient, basic – it will now be level 1- level 5
- Transition:
- MSA in reading and math will no longer be administered beginning next year, 2014-2015, MSA science will continue to be administered
- HSA will also be phased out. Next year, students will take PARCC in the following content areas: Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry and English 9, 10, and 11.
- Field Test Administration:
- At least one classroom at every school will field test
- No students in Algebra I or English 10 will field test
- Two administration windows:
- PBA: March 24 - April 11
- EOY: May 5 – June 6
- MSA and Field Testing
- If a student takes the full PARCC field test in a subject they will not need to take the MSA in that subject area this year.
- Technology:
- PARCC is intended to be delivered online.
- Paper will be available for the first few years if schools cannot administer the assessment online.
- PARCC can be administered on desktops, laptops, and tablets
- Tablets must have an external keyboard
- All students testing must have headphones
