What:
Guided Group Discovery consists of approximately 10 hours of instruction focused on helping youth and adults with disabilities and/or other barriers to employmentidentify their interests, contributions, and ideal conditions of employment. Discovery is the first step in a process called Customized Employment, a strategy which circumvents traditional, labor market approaches to job search, and focuses on using personal connections and interest-based negotiation. Guided Group Discovery results in a “Blueprint for Employment” which serves as a foundation for IEP/IPE development that will guidecareer planning and job search.
Who:
The Oregon Guided Group Discovery Project, in conjunction with the LEAD Center Customized Employment Initiative, is recruiting teams to co-facilitate Guided Group Discovery with transition age youth. Each team should include representatives from schools/YTP, Workforce and Vocational Rehabilitation.Teams will receive training, and can apply for additional on-site support to implement GGD as part of the Pre-ETS requirements.
Benefits to Youth:

- Develop a “networking pitch” that they can use flexibly to promote themselves!
- Potentially receive credit toward graduation requirements!
- Become aware of adult agency resources and experience a seamless transition to adult supports.
