WYNN Lesson Plan

Objectives:

  • Students will practice spelling words associated with the body
  • Students will learn definitions of vocabulary related to the human body and use new words in sentences.
  • Students will visit a Web site related to the human body
  • Students will write a paper on a human organ

Learning Vocabulary Lesson

Teacher Prep:

  • Open WYNN - Open a new document

  • Type the directions:

Directions: In Read-only Mode(toggled from the Write button), click on each word. On the Pink Toolbar, click the Spell button to hear the word spelled to you. Then, double-click on the note in front of each word to open the note. Click on Readto hear the definition.

  • Type a list of human organs vocabulary

  • Put definitions in Text Notes next to each term

Rotate to the Pink (Study Skills) Toolbar

Place cursor next to vocabulary word

Click on Note

When box opens, type in a definition

OR

You can also use Dictionary, & copy and paste the

definition into the box.

Highlight the definition.

Click Copy Selected Text to Clipboard

This is how the document will now look:

  • Save the document.

Learning Vocabulary Lesson (Warm-up activity)

Student Activity:

  • Open the teacher-saved document

  • Follow the directions.

  • Now, while in Write mode, use each word in your own sentence.

Learning about the Human Body - Extended Activities

Web Research:

  • Go to the Web in WYNN, and copy and paste the address below into the Address field to begin research on one human organ of your choice:

Using the Web Toolbar, highlight and extract key information from the Web
site into a new WYNN document to begin gathering data for your draft.

After you have highlighted information and clicked Extract, a pull-down will appear and you choose the appropriate command. Then another new window will open. You choose to open a new document or add to an existing one. This will happen each time you extract more information as you read the Internet article. The first time, you should choose “New WYNN Document.” Be sure to save the document with a file name of your choice. Each time after that, choose “Add to Existing Document” and choose the document you saved.

  • Save the document.

Use a different name so that the template will not be written over.

Writing Activities:

  • Open saved document

Rotate to Yellow (Writing) Toolbar

  • Open a new document

Using File List, you can switch between your new document and your saved document.

Depending on the assignment, the student can copy & paste desired information from the saved document into new document, or type desired information into the new document.

OR

Student can reread the saved document, close it, and type the report into the new document . If the vocabulary is difficult or student has trouble with the writing process, Word Prediction may be used. To make the Word Prediction choices more appropriate to the topic, Word Prediction Teacher Control may be used:

Make sure the saved document is on the screen

Click Advanced from Pull-Down Menu

Click on Word Prediction Teacher Control

Click Word Prediction Learning Text

Click Current Document

You will see the human body vocabulary being merged into the Word Prediction available vocabulary.

Now if the student is going to use Word Prediction,

Click the Word Prediction button

As the student types, appropriate vocabulary will appear in a pull-down window.

  • Use Spell Check

  • Use Homophone Check

  • Save the document
  • Print the document

You may also export the document into Word if you would like to add images, or if you want the text to be a certain font size.

Click Advanced from pull-down menu

Click on Word

The document will open in Word

Alter or add to the document as you like
