  • SUBCOMMITTEES REPORT OUT.
  • Library as Place Subcommittee. Thefinalized 2009-2010 Arc Gallery exhibit schedule was previewed; receptions will take place on the 3rd Friday of each month. The St. John’s Bible exhibit sponsored by APU will take place next summer. The library will cover cost of a small Gallery sign; a security system is in process delayed due to need for hard-wiring. Exhibit invitations will move to email as much as possible to save costs. In anticipation of APU’s 50th anniversary, a brass plaque is being revised; installation and a reception are being planned, and the Wilber Wallickskin painting will be ready by April.
  • Library Services Subcommittee. The plan to add a blog to the Academic Honesty and Integrity website has been delayed as the library want to move to a different software for intranet content. Members met to discuss which additional disciplines should have resource links and recommended adding them for business/accounting/finance, music, computer science, and computer programming, including the professional code of ethics for the computer software programming profession.
  • Library ResourcesSubcommittee held an appreciative-based inquiry style focus group with library faculty to find out what the library does well and how it can improve. LibQUAL resource-related comments sorted by program area will decide where to recruit next focus group participants for faculty input on needs and specific resources. Findings will be shared with liaison librarians.
  • ACADEMIC HONESTY AND INTEGRITY WEBSITE.Jackie Cason and Clare Chesher are developing responses to the You be the Judge I scenarios from the fall – not easy, as there are many gray areas. Carl reiterated the need to add content that addresses differing cultural perspectives, and wondered what resources others are using. Should students sign a contract agreeing to comply with university policy? Don Mohr is collecting information on the issues. The APU Dean considers that plagiarism is a far bigger issue than LAC can address; it should be brought before all the faculty and have a higher profile. The UAA Faculty Senate is aware of the issue, and will decide whether to turn on the SafeAssign software available in Blackboard 8 after its debut this summer.
  • LibQUAL™UPDATE. Results are available at students won the drawing for the iTouch and iShuffle; UAA students the second iShuffle and semester-long parking permit. There were 179 APU responses and 2209 from UAA.Many comments which will provide more detail will be sorted for ease of use over the coming week. LibQUAL has identified problem areas: focus groups will uncover specifics.
  • UPDATE FROM LIBRARY DEAN. The implementation plan ($1500-1600) for the APU checkout station is proceeding, equipment making up the most costly part. President North is leaving APU spuring the formation of search committees.
